We have quadruplets
Posted on 03-20-10 · About cats & dogs, I love photography! Tags: Canon EOS 5D Mark II, cats, Kitten, Lensababy Macro Kit, Lensbaby Composer, Pepper, SamLet’s take a break from serious (and, often, morose) topics to give way to an important announcement. Sam came home this weekend to welcome four new members of the family. No, we didn’t adopt. Pepper gave birth two nights ago and we have four new kittens who, we hope (Sam, especially), will all grow into full adult cats.
After all the uncertainties, at least we know now for sure that Pepper was indeed pregnant. Let me introduce the evidence, one by one. They are still nameless for the most part so suggestions are welcome.

Black and white. I’m hoping that Sam will give this one to Alex for her graduation gift.

This one is charcoal gray with gold-orangey spots. Gorgeous.

The only calico in the litter. I’ve been told that calico cats are almost always female so we likely have at least one female kitten.

Last, but not the least, Sam’s current favorite, the kitten that she calls “Gradient” because of its unique coloring.

Black head, gray tail and, in between, a gradient of gray that’s darkest near the head and lightest near the tail.
Now, the “shocking” part.
Who’s the father? Because Pepper very rarely ventures outside the perimeters of the garden, the father is most likely our other cat, still nameless after all these years so he is alternatively referred to as “Cute” or “Pssssst” depending on who’s calling him.
Why is that “shocking”? Because “Cute” or “Pssssst” is Pepper’s offspring, the only surviving cat from Pepper’s three previous litters. Alex calls it incest but I’m not all that sure if incest is natural among cats which really should remove the negative and “shocking” connotation.
P.S. All photos were taken with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Lensbaby Composer (with the 5.6 aperture disc) and Lensbaby Macro Kit.

ANG CUUUUUUUUUUUUTE!
Taking care of the litter would be a nice distraction from all the issues your family is facing right now.
Besides, having a new born in the house has always brought joy with it.
Gradient is an excellent name, I suggest you keep it.
Hahaha, Gradient for the win! Akala ko may Greyscale din. They all look so peaceful.
They are cuties!
Tip lang Ms. Connie para mas posible na hindi mamatay ang mga newly born kittens, iwasan natin palaging hahawakan sila until they are about 3 weeks to a month old. Hope it helps.
Jhay, there was a resignation and an apology. I’m content with that. For now. But if we get any more shit from anyone of those people, I’m renewing my attack.
Lance, re Greyscale: Pwede! hahaha
Frenchy, Sam should read your comment. She says it’s bad to hold the kitties only if the mother gets upset.
based on experience, being a cat lover, kasi pag palagi hinahawakan ang mga kuting, dinadala at tinatago ng nanay sa ibang lugar.
True, true. But then Sam is only here on weekends and she’s the only one who has the guts to touch the kittens (me, I’m scared and nandidiri at the same time hehehe). Pepper and kittens are in a spare bedroom. We just keep the door open so that Pepper can go down for feedings.
Yup have the same experience – one time I can access the kittens and one of my cats is overtly protective that she moves her kittens to our next door neighbors.
The charcoal one looks like a Beaver to me.
When I was young, we used to have a litter of kittens too borne from mother and its offspring. The first batch was ok, all cute and cuddly just like what you have now. But in succeeding births, the kittens that were borne out of “incest” actually grew up to be a little untame. I really loved the first litter, but totally hated all the rest because they hiss and scratch and were really unfriendly. I think it seemed like they had a mental disorder, same as incest in humans which may result to abnormal babies.
Whoa. Time to have Pepper neutered?
Name suggestions… Ginger.. Lemon… boxer (knocked up).. oedipus hahaha… since the mom was pepper and the dad was “cute” hahaha
Oedipus 1, Oedipus 2, Oedipus 3… hahaha
I grew up with cats. I now have seven (5 originals and 2 rescued from ondoy). I name my kittens the moment they are born; a spur of the moment thing based on their instant appeal to me. The “original 5″ are called Stell, Peter, Julius, Rachel and “Colorrific”. Stella or Stell for short is the mother of PJRC and she’s simply lovely so I thought I’d give her a girly name. Peter and Julius are handsome tabbies. They look more guwapo than Morris in the 9Lives catfood bag or the ones in Friskies (but I’m biased, but it’s true
) They are my little “Peter the High King and Julius Caesar”. Rachel, the first born, is saucy and Colorrific is…well…colorful. She is a bob-tailed calico and the last one I named but not until my 4-year old nephew impatiently asked me for her name. For some reason I blurted out “colorrific” and it stuck. To this day, their vet still smiles at Colorrific’s name. She must think the amo is crazy.
As for my refugees, I named them Cream and Puff. I was having creampuffs the day they arrived. Cream is white and Puff is the color of a hedgehog who tries to swell her tiny body when threatened.
I see you have two “Kitler” cats – the b&w and the calico. Kitler cats are named after Hitler because of the markings in their nose.
Hope you don’t find them kadiri soon because they’re not. Cats are little angels with sandpaper kisses and hearts full of love
omg! such cute kittens! I especially love the calico one. I hope they all survive
so far we have…gradient, greyscale, ginger, lemon, oedipus rex! basta one of them is mine except, of course, the one for Alex.
Namatay yung dalawa huhuhu
i love cats, i just hate it when they drop their load on the roof or it it’s their mating season coz they’re so noisy.
good for you your roof isn’t metal, good luck sa cats if they roll in your roof tiles haha
Medyo kadiri talga sila pag newborn, basta iwas lang sa paghawak kasi yung iba nagkaka sore eyes.
ingat din sa furniture coz some cats tend to sharpen their claws by scratching on posts, table legs and wherever they can sink their claws on. Much better if they’ll have anti-rabies shots.
“ingat din sa furniture”
Naku, all our wooden furniture are scratched.
Ay
sori. Why kaya? May milk ba the mum?
Yah, enough milk. I don’t know, really. The extreme weather might be a factor. The humidity is a killer.
we are going to adopt a kitten this summer for my daughter and we are still on waiting. Sino sa kanila ang namatay? wawa naman
the one i like is the one with gold-orangey spots. hubby has a cat before kaya lang nadedo na kasi nabulag she was 14 years old and her name is “Biquette” (biket)well, since pepper is the mother
why not giving a name of spices hehehe. i know somebody who has a cat named Cannelle-Cinnamon and i find it cute! kaya lang namatay din yung cat kasi hindi naka survive sa operation nya. my suggestions are cannelle-cinnamon (kanel) or muscade -nutmeg (muskad) hehehe masarap silang pagsamahin
The calico and the charcoal with orangey spots were already dead when the cleaning woman came in this morning. Sad.
I’ve long wanted a “Ginger” (we had a “Salt” but he got lost, and a “Maki” who ate a poisonous toad and died) but now we have only Gradient and the black-and-white.
oooohhhh wow! they are sooo adorable…! sorry the two didn’t survive =(
when i was a little girl, i used to have 24 kittens! most of them i pick up from the street while i walk home from school. at first my family found joy in them but when the bunch grew every week because of my “adoptive instincts”, they decided to give them away one by one =(
i never outgrew my love for cats, but i don’t own one anymore. i now have 6 dogs.
cheers to all pet lovers!
Actually, as of this morning, the other two have died too. None left. Sad day for us.
Oh,that’s heartbreaking.Ang cute pa naman nila.
Naku baka ma depress si Pepper.I’m so sorry for your loss, lalo
na kay Sam.
Pepper keeps by my side all the time now. I guess she needs reassurance. I just texted Sam…
OMG! I’d like to know if the father had a chance to get near the babies? I witnessed before how a full-grown male cat savagely bit my newly-born kitten under the chin. One small puncture and the poor kitty gasped for air and died instantly. Or maybe they were premature kitties? Sad sad sad
Yep, he did. The kittens were upstairs in a spare room but we had to keep the door open so that Pepper could go in and out freely (feeding is downstairs).
I was enjoying looking at the photos of the kittens, but saddened by their deaths as I read the comments. I do hope you can consider neutering Pepper though. She can live a longer life if she isn’t pregnant all the time.
There are tons of unwanted cats at animal shelters and I’m sure you can find a good housecat to add to your set at home if you go to PAWS. When I was volunteering there last year, the cattery had over a hundred cats.
Hope Pepper is doing ok.
I’ve thought about neutering many times. But, in a way, it seems so cruel, like taking away part of her nature. You know, like tomcats that get sprayed? They say spraying makes them lose their natural swagger and hunter instinct. I’d be sorry to see Pepper like an empty shell.
Hi,
Congratulations for having new kittens! Ang ganda nila – I wish I could have one but then, wishful thinking….
ang kyut naman ng mga kutingting! atty, i love your blog. entertaining. =) keep it up!
