When CheH tagged me for The Face Behind The Blog, I was tempted to write a new “About Me” page. Then, I figured that the best way to do this is to integrate another meme for which Pinoy Cook has been tagged — 8 random facts about myself. I don’t really understand the context in which “random” was used in the meme so I’ll go with the first eight things that come to mind.
1. A lot of people mistake me for a Chinese or Japanese. When I was a child and my parents brought me along on their Chinatown expeditions, the shopkeepers would often address me in Chinese, and my parents had to explain all the time that I didn’t speak Chinese.
2. My parents are both lawyers.
3. I have only one sibling — a brother — who is also a lawyer and no two siblings look less alike. He’s darker-skinned with big round eyes and jet black hair. I was born with this skin and eyes and my hair has always been black in places and brown in others. As though the sun bleaches it.
4. I fell seriously ill when I was 24 and the doctors said I wouldn’t be able to have children. Who said they knew everything, eh?
5. I entered college at the age of 15. I registered in U.P. as a Journalism major because my mother insisted and said she wouldn’t pay my tuition unless I did as I was told. After one semester, I shifted to Philosophy. My life, my choice.
6. I love tea but not as much as I love coffee.
7. The first time I surfed the Net, I knew I was hooked.
8. I work in bursts and I have trouble keeping strict schedules.
Sam took the photo last summer when we stayed overnight at Balay Indang.
I now pass the tag to Pinayhekmi (congratulations on the arrival of Baby Sabine Mina), Tito Rolly (who will always be Tito for me hehehe), Melissa (she’s an institution in blogging), Feng (a brand new SAHM), Geri (love her artwork), Señor Enrique (glorious, glorious photo essays) — all of whom I feel deserve the Thinking Blog Award as well, a tag passed on by Mitch and Princess.

my husband’s doctor also told him he wont have kids, now we have two girls! great to know you more, connie.
Connie 08.18.07 at 3:49 pm
And we have two girls too. I can imagine how depressing it must have been to hear the doctor say that. Me, I was on a warpath. With some, it’s okay not to have kids and it’s great for them. For others, well, for me, I really wanted kids, so, it felt bad to hear them make such conclusions.
Mitchteryosa 08.18.07 at 3:52 pm
Akala ko din may Chinese blood ka.
Connie 08.18.07 at 4:01 pm
hehehehe you’re not the first LOL
cheH 08.18.07 at 4:04 pm

There you are!! Ganda ah. Hindi ka naman mukhang Chinese dyan. Parang ano, Kapampangan…pwede din Bisaya. Hahaha!!
Joke lang ah..(should I be dodging bullets now?)
I was also told that I wouldn’t have kids because of endomitriosis(wrong spelling ata) . Eto, dalawa ng asungot ang resulta
Connie 08.18.07 at 4:33 pm
CheH, I think it was because suwail kami pareho kaya we became lawyers, para maka-kontra sa magulang hahahahaha
Kongkong, no bullets hahahaha Pwede rin ngang Korean or Vietnamese.
Re: endometriosis. That was what the doctors suspected, could not prove but decided they should remove my uterus anyway. Assholes.

Hi, Connie. Great photo of the face behind the blog. And the face behind the articles… Great timing ’cause I was just about to ask you for a photo to accompany your article. Can I just grab this? Or maybe you can email me a hi-res file? Thanks
Connie 08.18.07 at 6:10 pm
Carol, messy hair and all? LOL It’s so ME, actually. I’ll send you the original photo.
feng 08.18.07 at 9:21 pm
ay Connie, the No. 1 random fact holds true talaga. the first time I saw you at the PMN Mommy Lunch meetup, I thought you’re of a Chinese clan because of your chinita eyes and the white, flawless skin.
thanks for the tag, nakakataba po ng puso.
eric aka senor enrique 08.18.07 at 9:28 pm
Oh, no!
Glad you like my photo essays, though
Connie 08.18.07 at 9:45 pm
hay, feng, when sam and alex were toddlers, shopkeepers in Greenhills would talk to them in Chinese too. Sam, especially. LOL
Uy, eric, bakit “Oh, no!” Ma-trabaho? Kapiraso lang yan. hehehe I have always liked your photo essays.
Mitchteryosa 08.18.07 at 9:58 pm
*Nagbabalak i-tag si Connie hehehe!*
dexie 08.18.07 at 10:09 pm
Doctors, what do they know? LOL
I get mistaken for Mexican all the time. They start talking to me in their language too fast. Sometimes I feel bad that I don’t understand them but sometimes I get irritated too. Oh well. I usually get what they’re saying after like 2 hours(LOL) coz some of their words are just like the Filipino language.
Love the top btw, Love that embroidery trim detail. Basta damit, excited talaga no?. LOL.
Connie 08.18.07 at 10:24 pm
Dexie, guess what? That’s a flea market find. PhP300.00 so that would make it between 6 and 7 dollars. hehehehe
dexie 08.18.07 at 10:54 pm
you’re speaking my language..LOL
kotsengkuba 08.19.07 at 12:18 am
ang sabi ng doktor, my wife will have low chances of having a baby. polycistic daw ang tawag dun. maraming itlog pero puro bugok.
Connie 08.19.07 at 12:55 am
kung minsan, instead of cheering up the patient, nakaka-depress makinig sa doktor. In a way, perhaps, ayaw magbigay ng false hopes.
kotsengkuba, ang hirap ng OFW, no? And your child will only pass that stage once. So sad that you’re missing all of it.
kotsengkuba 08.19.07 at 1:29 am
Rach 08.19.07 at 2:40 am
Hi Connie. Thanks for sharing these interesting things about you.
It must have been terrible to hear the doctor say that. I’m glad you proved them wrong.
Wow, you entered college very young. I just turned 18 when I entered college (I went through Grade 7 pa).
Same here, there are times when people mistake me as a Chinese. I have many Fil-Chinese friends and when we’re together, people think I’m Chinese too.
Connie 08.19.07 at 3:23 am
Ngek. I didn’t even ask kasi sabi ko obvious naman. LOL
lady cess 08.19.07 at 6:58 am
ganda mo sa pic!
hahaha! yun din akala ko when i saw you sa mommy lunch, that you have chinese blood
si sam ba mukhang inclined din to become a lawyer like you?
eric aka senor enrique 08.19.07 at 7:54 am
Okay, Connie, only if I’d be allowed to be creative about it
I’ll get a pic scanned for the post.
mitchteryosa 08.19.07 at 2:39 pm
Did you invite that doctor sa binyagan ng first born niyo? :p Para nagulat sana hahaha!
KK 08.19.07 at 8:32 pm
Honestly, that picture of you is the sexiest I’ve seen so far. The body language and the smile say’s “I’m happy and at peace with myself.” Great shot for Sam.
Wow you entered college young. Working in bursts, parang artist’s schedule ano?
thess 08.19.07 at 9:45 pm
geri 08.20.07 at 11:44 am
I had fun reading this. You were a very young college freshman! I was also struck how you were falsely told you couldn’t have children - and you proved them wrong - twice
I was often mistaken for a chinese too in Shenzhen and was often asked for directions by the real chinese.
Melissa 08.20.07 at 4:57 pm
Glad that the doctors were wrong! Dalawa pa naging anak mo!!!
Hirap siguro pag may argument sa house nyo at puro lawyers!!!
Connie 08.21.07 at 1:15 pm
lady cess, Sam wants to be a professional photographer na pang-National Geographic.
eric, wow, now you got me intrigued. of course, the more creative, the more exciting.
mitch, no, sapakin ko pa sya hahahahaha
KK, I forgot to tuck my tummy in hahahahaha re working in bursts, yeah, i have the artist’s temperament. weird, since i never considered myself an artist.
thess, eh ang daming nagkalat na picture ko sa web since the first iBlog.
Geri, how do you respond when you’re addressed in Chinese? Ako, madalas, amused and flabbergasted at the same time. hahahaha
Melissa, re “Hirap siguro pag may argument sa house nyo at puro lawyers!!!”
ummmm… mahirap for our parents, I think. Advantageous for my brother and myself hahahaha
rhodora 08.21.07 at 11:47 pm
Hmm… I’m supposed to be on blog break but I keep visiting your site. LOL!
You look so happy and content in this pic, Connie. I just did this meme too. Mitch also tagged me. In fact, I posted it as my ‘blog breaking’ entry. I invite you to take a look.. hehehe.
BTW, there are people who get lovelier as they mature. And honestly - you are one of them!
Connie 08.22.07 at 12:52 am
Salamat, rhodora.
I’ll be bloghopping in a bit. Getting rid of a deadline muna hehehehe
