The weekend was all about housekeeping. A portion of the parquet flooring in my study had to be repaired. In the garden, Speedy started installing lights and Sam was his assistant for an hour or so. We chose pendant capiz lamps a long time ago. Four had been installed in the gazebo but the rest [...]

Yesterday, after getting a much needed haircut, I passed by a couple of garden landscapers in preparation for the much delayed garden project. We have bluegrass and I’m not so happy with it.
It came with the landscaped garden and we weren’t really planning on overhauling anything except that there is a portion of the [...]

Two months ago, we planted two sturdy branches of malunggay in the garden. They were cuttings from a mature tree owned by an aunt of one of the house helpers. It took a while but it looks like we’re finally going to have a steady supply of malunggay.
I can almost taste it… clams and malunggay [...]

There are four remaining areas in the house that are quite unfinished. Structurally, they are complete but they still need to be furnished to be functional. One of these areas is my study/office but it’ll be fully furnished by the middle of the month. Honestly, it should have been a priority considering the amount of [...]

Two months ago, I posted photos of some of the herbs and fruit trees in the garden. Those photos show the herbs still in pots and troughs. We have since replanted them, interspersing them with the ornamental plants to give the garden a more pulled together look.
When the herbs were replanted, we had to [...]

Back in the old house, the front and back garden had steps made of cast concrete slabs with embedded pebbles. This variety of garden steps is the most common and they are available in different shapes and sizes. We didn’t exactly choose this kind of steps, it came with the landscaping job.
I have two issues [...]

Loved them the first time I saw them and I didn’t even know what they were called.
Horsetail, I learned later. Or, to be more precise, Equisetum hyemale, one of the many varieties of horsetail. They thrive on watery areas and propagate without too much work. I wanted horsetail on two tall pots in the entryway [...]

Back in the old house, a malunggay tree growing in an adjacent property was visible from our backyard. And I would covet that three, wishing it was growing in MY backyard instead. See, I love malunggay leaves. I love adding them to fish soup with lots of ginger and garlic.
A few days ago, my wish [...]

Save for a few minor things, the house renovation is done. Work still needs to be done on the windows, we still need locks for the French doors, some painting will have to be re-done (the rains ruined some of the paint) but, other than those, we’re okay. Ergo, it’s time to attend to the [...]

The house came with a beautifully landscaped garden. There are plants on the entryway and on both sides of the front door, in the lanai and in the main garden. We’re keeping most of the plants that came with the house but we’ll have to move some to accommodate the herbs that we pulled out [...]
