Composition and angle in photography

Just before Sam started college, I bought her two photography books (okay, that’s in addition to all the other photography books I’d been buying her for the past two years). One of them is… Ummm, this is the part where I stood up and started hunting for the book which I was sure I left in the Blue Room but which, surprisingly or not, wasn’t there. Doesn’t...  (more »»)

Defining a section of the house

I have had an assortment of table cloths and placemats for as long as I can remember. I even had a Christmas set with appliqued poinsettias from The House of Ramie which, as far as I know, has closed shop years ago. Had. Many of my placemat sets have...  (more »»)

The beautiful pendant lamp is a magnet for antflies

One of the lighting fixtures that took us longest to choose was the one meant to hang over the dining table. The popular choice is the pendant lamp with retractable cord but the designs we found were too saloon-ish. I wanted something different — something that was both unassuming yet capable of making a definite statement. After three weeks of going through shops in...  (more »»)

Yesterday was order-the-furniture day. We already had “some ideas” about where to buy the furniture but we had not really made up our minds. We had scoured more than a dozen places, including Tiendesitas, Greenhills and malls, and still hadn’t made any final decisions. We were clear on one thing though — we want hardwood furniture, we want the covers...  (more »»)
