Gift-wrapped kitten?

by Connie Veneracion on June 2, 2007

Kitten Pepper doesn’t look too happy in the photo, does she? She probably thought she was being gift-wrapped to be given away. But of course, she wasn’t! We ordered a cake over a week ago and it came in a box tied with a red ribbon. My 13-year-old daughter Alex just thought it would be [...]

Kittens’ favorite sleeping spot

by Connie Veneracion on May 31, 2007

Ever since we had cats in the house, we’ve had a cat bed with a washable mattress. For some reason, none of our cats ever slept in it.

Salt and Pepper prefer to sleep on armchairs and sofas. Their favorite spot is on top of the backrest of the sofa. I don’t know why. When I’m [...]

Cat’s eyes tell the time

by Connie Veneracion on May 29, 2007

I was doing some reading on bottled water and cancer for Thursday’s op-ed column and the research brought me to the Snopes message boards. One of the members there uses the nickname Llewtrah lutra (the Known Minx) and the links to his/her site was right below his/her name. I clicked and I found a most [...]

Kitten and my MacBook

by Connie Veneracion on May 23, 2007

Fat kitten Pepper decides to keep me company while I try to beat my newspaper deadline.

Problem is she’d stand up every few seconds and swish her tail right across my monitor.

Kitten Pepper is getting fat

by Connie Veneracion on May 21, 2007

When we brought the kittens home, Pepper was just a bit larger and rounder than Salt. That was almost two months ago.

Pepper is now much fatter than Salt although, from our observation, Salt eats more than she does. Perhaps, it’s the fact that Salt is more physically active that makes him more trim. Pepper does [...]

What’s good for a kitten

by Connie Veneracion on May 13, 2007

Let the kitten stay on kitten food for at least a year.
A kitten needs a lot of touching and petting. Why?
The ideal cat grows from a kitten that is adaptive, social, curious, playful, and unafraid of new experiences and people (within limits). As with most mammals, especially domestic animals and humans, early experiences in infancy [...]

Flea-free cats and kittens

by Connie Veneracion on May 12, 2007

If your cat has fleas, Sergeant’s Skip-Flea & Tick Shampoo (which we use on our pet kittens) has specific instructions on how to use it when bathing the pets for maximum benefits.

From the back label of the Sergeant’s Skip-Flea & Tick Shampoo bottle:
Wet the pet and apply a generous amount of shampoo working it well [...]

Getting rid of cat fleas

by Connie Veneracion on April 24, 2007

It was a sad day when we discovered that Salt and Pepper had fleas. A few fleas may not harm a cat but too many may cause anemia.

Within a few hours of the discovery of fleas, my husband bought Sergeant’s Skip-Flea & Tick Shampoo and Bayer’s Carbamate Bay-o-pet powder.
The shampoo is applied to the wet [...]
