Some changes
By Connie Veneracion on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 10:26 pm in work
I never thought there would be a “career and profession” category in any of my blogs. I left behind a career — by choice — when I became a mother.
Then, I gave up a promising second wind eight years later — again, by choice — because I wanted a career that would not keep me away from my daughters for long hours everyday.
Writing from the comfort of my own home, at my convenience, worked just fine for the past four years. But there are changes looming ahead.
I’m going to teach, part time, at the kids’ school. My friend, fellow lawyer, former U.P. College of Law batchmate, partner-in-crime in the school project that became HEdCen.Com and, now, fellow blogger Eric Santos, not the singer, and I will be teaching the senior class — an elective on Internet and Law. It’s been in the can for a couple of weeks now and it became official — and public — when the announcement was made at the Parents’ Orientation Seminar earlier today. Although it’s been months since Eric suggested that I mull over the idea of teaching, it still felt strange to hear it said publicly.
As usual, Speedy had foreseen this. When I started blogging, he always knew that the next step was the print media — a newspaper column — and, until two years ago, I thought that was very funny. He had broached the idea of teaching more than a year ago and I thought he was being funny again. Me, teach? Very funny. But, well…
I’m not the only one gearing up for some changes around here. Speedy’s blogging. He always said he couldn’t write. In fact, I always helped him with office communication, including speech-writing. But he has posted two entries so far and I can’t believe that I fell for all that crap that he couldn’t write. I swear, from now on, he will do his writing by himself.
So… a toast to changes. May they create more wonderful memories.

I never thought I’d earn from my hobby either. When I started out in 1995, Butch sneered at it. He’s eating his words now.
Am just curious, is there internet safety education in the lower years though? I think it’s just as important as knowing the law.

Wonderful! At least you get a real, live audience. And you can even teach and preach what you practice.
Good luck, Teacher Connie, not that you need the luck. May you enjoy the interaction and satisfaction that teaching brings.

Both, Dexie.
Alex thinks it’s unfair that the class is only for seniors. She wants in. Sam thinks no one will pass hehehe
Noemi, internet safety is supposed to be part of what we’re going to teach.
Julie, re “preach what you practice” LOL I’m gonna make REAL bloggers and writers of those kids hhahahahaha
Auee, if you ask Sam, the answer would be yes. Pero, exag yun hahahaha

I think you’re a natural teacher Ate Connie. You have so much patience in getting into detail- just like in your PinoyCook blog. The choco crinkles post is memorable because it takes alot of effort and patience to make a step by step photo and explanation of the process. Personally, I’ll just say “use your common sense.”
You’ll be enjoying so much because the subject combines both law and Internet. Pwede bang makisaling pusa sa senior class? ![]()

much as we the people appreciate your blogging,
we are left unclued , to why ?, you are motivated to educate , ‘our’ youth.
is it in your blood ? i have no clue.
to make ends meet ? not.
a genuine calling ? even if elective ?
for our amusement ?
for yours?
pray tell.

Sassy Mom, nakakapanibago ano?

sali ka? hehehe the detailed instructions… that was what triggered the whole thing — the ability to simplify anything.
Angel, oh yes, how true! It’s going to be a two way learning process.
Baranggay, for my growth — emotionally, intellectually and socially — and the hope that I can contribute to the growth of those kids too.

Hi Connie!
Didn’t they say 2007 would be a life-changing year? Seems like there are a few mommies (you included) who are undergoing these life changes.
Nothing definite yet….but I may join the fray too. In what form? Still to be finalized. Abangan!
Congrats on your teaching post! The way your blogs are going, you will have a lot to teach these kids. Keep your cool lang with them and if ever you start getting stressed, remember…..there is YOGA at UP. Hahaha…
I may still get you to try it out….

Jane, naku ha, na-intrigue ako with your “abangan.”
Change is exciting, isn’t it? I might even take you up on the YOGA thing hahahaha.
On the other hand, Sam’s coach thinks I ought to take up figure skating too hahahahaha

Ooh, Speedy is now blogging too. Reresbak ba sya for posts such as the Collector Exposed (i forgot your title but you know which post I mean hehe)?
I also write my hub’s letters and all stuff written.
Way to go on the teaching job. Really, it’s wonderful reinventing and rediscovering ourselves.

Chats, resbak sya? Matutulog sya sa sala hahahahha
When your kids are a little older, you’ll have so much time to discover a lot of new things about yourself. Pag maliliit pa kasi, parang 24 hours aren’t enough being a mommy.
