So, there’s going to be a CSI movie
Posted on 04-23-09 · Entertain Me Tags: CSI, CSI movie, Laurence Fishburne, television, William PetersenDespite my not being a TV addict, I am addicted to CSI — still addicted to CSI after all these years. It’s the only thing on television than can make me put down a book or make me leave my computer. If we miss an episode on the regular schedule and we go out the following Sunday when there’s a replay, we make a real effort to be home by 9.00 p.m. to make it on time to catch the evening replay (the full videos on the CBS site are not available for my region). It’s one of the very few TV fiction these days that doesn’t seem to have any intention of dumbing down the viewer. It may not be genuinely realistic — if you see real CSIs in Crime & Investigation Network, they’re not half as articulate nor a fraction as good looking as anyone in any of the three CSIs’ casts (well, except for David Caruso) — but, at least, it encourages the viewer to do further reading when a new word or idea is mentioned.
We’re a little behind with the telecast here in Asia. The 10th episode just aired tonight — the last where Gil Grissom (William Petersen) appears. Bittersweet, it was, and the real surprise was the epilogue where Grissom surprises Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) in Costa Rica. I’ve purposely refrained from reading feedback on how the transition from Grissom to Langston (Laurence Fishburne) goes so as not to form a bias. I like Laurence Fishburne but I found it a bit unsettling when, after he agreed to join the CSI cast, he said in an interview that he had never seen any of its episodes before.
Anyway, so Grissom’s out. Other CSI cast members have left before and their departures had been written into the stories by killing off their characters. That was how it was with Aiden Burn (Vanessa Ferlito) in CSI: NY, Tim Speedle (Rory Cochrane) in CSI: Miami and, most recently, Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan) in CSI. But when Sara and Grissom left CSI, their characters were not killed off. Now, we know why. There’s going to be a movie and it’s already been confirmed that Grissom at least, if not Sara, will be in it. William Petersen, still the show’s executive producer, confirmed it.
“Yes, there will be a movie. I can understand people are a little trepidatious because of the franchise around the world and how well it’s doing. Usually people leave it until a series has finished – they did that with the X-Files and Sex and the City. But it’s about finding the right story – there has got to be a real reason to do it. You don’t just do it because you want to make money – you do it because there’s a story that can’t be told on TV and needs to be told from CSI’s perspective and the audience wants it…” [Telegraph]
I’m ambivalent toward the whole thing. It’s not as if every successful TV show has been successfully translated into a movie. The first X-Files movie was a huge letdown and the second was only a little better. I can only hope that CSI the movie will be able to capture the essence of the TV series that made it so popular in the first place.
Now, if anyone tells me that there will also be a CSI: Miami movie, I hope that David Caruso won’t be in it.
hahaha… do you also hate his sunglasses?
Yep, and his hand-on-hip pose and his stupid one-liners. Urgh!
dont forget when Horatio talks to someone, he faces them sideways. i have no idea why he does that, it’s so irritating. oo nga pala, H ang nickname nya dun ano. coincidence lang.
i still watch CSI miami, coz there are times na interested talaga ako sa story, i just make fun of Horatio’s habits. im loyal to the original but im not so sure anymore now that Grissom’s gone. he’s my favorite character in all CSI series. it’s like killing Fox Mulder in X-Files. meaning walang kwenta ang CSI kung wala si Grissom.
frankly, i dont like sarah for grissom. mas gusto ko si Lady Heather, coz she’s more interesting and smart too.
Oh, I agree. Lady Heather is quite a character. But Sara Sidle is just as nerdy as Grissom is so many ways. Passionate about work but not really about people. Lady Heather is passionate — period.
Re “when Horatio talks to someone, he faces them sideways”
Maybe he thinks he has a gorgeous profile? LOL I watch CSI: Miami too but not as religiously as the original.
Well I definitely will watch that movie. I really believe in the CSI writes, and actors. They’ve hardly ever let me down.
I don’t know how you feel about more humorous shows Connie, but you should definitely check out Chuck. Just an all-around funny cast, witty dialogue, sexual chemistry, great writing….I could go on and on. I don’t know if it’s showing there but see if it’s available. It’s also available on NBC.com (though it may be like CBS).
I’ve stopped watching CSI for now. I mean, Grissom (sob!) is gone. Also, I go for lighter, funnier shows nowadays. I hope you get on board with Chuck.
I’ll check if its aired locally. I think it is. Thanks for the tip. I am so running out of good shows to watch. Even Trave & Living Channel ain’t much fun anymore.
csi miami is the only csi that i do not watch because of david caruso… i simply don’t like the guy. i felt sad too last night watching grissom leave the csi… good thing though, the ending brought him where sara is… ok na rin.
same here… i don’t watch csi miami because or him!
Dumadami David Caruso fans hehehe And there’s the comment thread in an older entry lambasting Caruso’s character in CSI: Miami too.
I realize you are behind in the episodes of CSI – when you catch up, I’d be interested if your perception is the same as mine. They seem to be cutting Kathryn out more and more. No clue why.
Oh? Weird really because when Grissom first announced he was leaving (Episode 9, was it?), he did say that Catherine would be the supervisor. Then, the following episode, he recruits Langston. And I did wonder if there would be professional jealousy and resentment on the part of Catherine.
Horatio is overrated. I really miss Grissom. Its not the same without him!!!
Well , I watch CSI Miami because of David Caruso (and of a course Emily Procter). Actually , CSI NY, Miami and Las Vegas is how I like them in that order. Putting NY first – my reason is it is more realistic than LV. (Minsan gusto ko may konting violence) Preferring Miami than LV is not exactly because of those beautiful women in the scenes but more on packing action with lifestyle. It’s just me of course.
BTW, nobody from CSI is making any claim that Horatio is rated better than the other CSI stars.Correct me if I’m wrong on my assertion.
You watch CSI because of David Caruso? That’s a first hehehehe
For a change, I like to watch something different. And that is my first he he he.
I’m a CSI fan too! I like CSI LV, NY and Miami in that order. Don’t like David Caruso too! Rhoda likes Miami better than NY because of the scenery (don’t know if that includes the girls…hehehe!). Really interested in watching shows like these apart from watching William Peterse I recall being a fan of a show several years ago about a medical examiner. Ooops! Reveals my age.
You’re referring to Quincy? Jack Klugman?
Yup, Quincy M.E. of Jack Klugman. Was a fan of that show too.
Me too.
Never mind kung giveaway yung age hehehehe
LOL You are right… I am so glad that even you hates DAVID CARUSO.. Well, practically everybody hates him.. There are websites made specifically to spew hate against David Caruso.. This guy simply ruins the franchise.
Check this out for the viewership performance of CSI Miami -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CSI_franchise
It seems CSI Miami is performing better in terms of viewership than CSI New York.
David Caruso ruining the franchise? Duh!
Just to have a benchmark for viewership, check this out for Oprah Winfrey’s show -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Oprah_Winfrey_Show
My mouth just fell open.
But, wait! CSI: Miami shows more skin because of the location. Bikini girls and bare-chested hunks. I bet those are factors.
Plus, if you look at the numbers, viewership of CSI: Miami has been steadily declining over the last 5 seasons — 5.3 percent. And 4 seasons ago would be about the time when H started to become superman/psychic/whatnot.
Meanwhile, CSI: New York has a more steady viewership.
As to Oprah, well, I’d attribute the drop to her penchant for guesting the likes of Dr. Phil and the Suze character. It was too many episodes like that that made me stop watching her show.
You’re right but that is true also with CSI LV. I could say that the viewership for all three CSI are unstable but not to the point that they are declining specifically CSI Miami. (Those franchise owner is suppose to be the one to know first. How many seasons is Caruso is with CSI M? Right from the start isn’t it?)
As for Oprah, IMO, it’s her PC and her Obamaistic (lately) leaning that made her decline. Check the regulars, which means CNN, MCBS, etc. rating against Foxnews in the US. Put a question mark why?
Oprah’s ratings have been dropping long before Obama announced his intention to run for president.
No TV show rating is stable.
I can agree with that. It’s just that lately, there has been a decline on viewership on those progressive leaning networks. (Foxnews, according to the survey in US, is the most trusted network in providing information). I’m still searching the net for the data if her viewership decline has gone faster during Obama’s campaign.
But nevertheless, I’ve made Oprah’s program or show as a benchmark for CSI Miami for viewership performance in US. Her viewership decline perhaps can be solely attributed for her. On the other hand, for CSI Miami, all I can say is that David Caruso could have been fired if the show is tanking.
CSI Miami is more popular than LV or NY.
According to MSNBC “watchable yet horrible”, the series places its visual aesthetics above all else. LV shocked its viewers with its rapid-zoom close ups of body parts and 3D examinations of injuries and wounds. Miami shocked its viewers in stunning version in bright colors that scream attention in high definition.
“Nothing looks quite like CSI Miami does, nor does any other show make Miami look so stunning and flawless, whether the camera is scanning bikinied bodies by a pool or surveying high-rise condominiums from a helicopter”.
D0d0ng,
Sabi nga ng isang commenter, Sassy hates David Caruso (I’m still figuring if the phrase “wont be in it” is the same as “I hate”).
In your comment, I might also add the lifestyle being portrayed in CSI M. Things that you can fantasized.
If you mean lifestyle as portrayed by bikinied bodies in the beach, it is all over the place. It is all hype coz they are just there to unwind and tanned themselves like dried fish, which Asians so avoided (in the sun). Hehe. (www.beachcalifornia.com/beach-bathing-photos-pictures.html)
Alternate shoots of CSI Miami are done at Long Beach or Redondo Beach (Los Angeles south) where the beach has the background of tall glass buildings or condominiums, unlike west of LA in Malibu Beach or Zuma Beach unspoiled by tall structures. I like Zuma better. But nothing can beat the beaches in the Philippines with white sands.
Asian’s lifestyle at beach especially the 1st generation is very interesting as far as the caucasians are concerned. We go there for a feast. We kept on eating from the time we hit the beach until we were about to leave. You can see the amused expressions of those besides us wondering how much food we can eat in our tiny body. And I haven’t mentioned Filipino foods. Plus everybody are squeezed under an umbrella avoiding the sun at all cost.
It is really weird on the beach, we were just looking at the same Pacific Ocean.
I have been seeing these trailers lining up along Westbury or Jollete in Balboa Highlands and I had no clue which TV or Film productions had been shooting on site. This happened at least a few times in a year with casting crews and talents all over the place and security personnel. I am sure it is not the dreaded adultfilm which tends to be discreet or the old folks around the area would not allow one.
My wife told me it must be CSI coz she watch one episode with a very familiar scene. So, I am surprised today that they did when I google the area.

The other surprise is that CSI maintained casting crews at Los Angeles such as CSI at Valley Village, CSI Miami at Encino, CSI NY at Studio City. That means they had been shooting most segments at LA for CSI New York, Miami, etc.
Oh my, I never knew Jodie Foster used to grew up around the area and John Wayne used to have a ranch. I guess people are just so quiet.
So Anthony James is a fly-by-night commenter here?
Considering how old this entry is, yes, I think so. Naligaw lang sya.
Count me in, count me in! I’m a fan of CSI Miami too because of David Caruso’s character…
Oh gosh! My comment should be:
Count me in, count me in! I’m NOT a fan of CSI Miami too because of David Caruso’s character…
