Seven years of memories

by Connie Veneracion on June 16, 2008

Regular classes have started for the girls and, suddenly, the house is quiet. The entire set of encyclopedia and the photo albums have been taken down from the bookshelves and are ready to be packed. When the house helper went to the supermarket to buy her personal stuff a few hours ago and I found myself alone for a few hours, I took the time to survey the house.

Flowers of the banaba tree

Out in the front garden, the banaba tree finally blooms. After years and years of waiting for the flowers, it finally blooms. Speedy says it is as though it is willing us to stay. We made a lot of happy memories here and I will always look back at the seven years we spent here with a nostalgic smile. It’s been a lucky house all in all but we’re more than ready to move on.

Sam and Alex were young girls when we moved here. This was where we giggled over stories about their first crushes, this was where we started planting our own herbs, this was where we discovered we are a cat-loving people. This was where Sam developed a passion for photography and where Alex fell in love with graphic art. This was where Speedy made a big career move then went on to climb up the corporate ladder. This house was the scene of so many outdoor barbecues and dinner parties with family and friends. This was where I started blogging and this was where this domain was born.

In a way, it’s only now that we can say that we’re finally ready to build our roots. We’ve been gypsies, Speedy and I, since we married. This time, we’re moving somewhere where we can grow old together.

Nothing’s constant but change. :)

It’s a nice feeling to be moving on to better things.

Yes, exactly, and that’s what takes away any possible feeling of sadness. :)

There’s a song I’ve been LSSing over lately, sa kakapanood ng anak ko ng “Cars” ng Pixar:

and I just think it’s such a great “moving on” song.

It’s entitled “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts. Enjoy, and goodluck ;)

This is a lovely post, Connie, full of emotions though of course,I couldn’t probably picture you crying buckets of tears, hehe.

I would love to be doing what you are doing but we still don’t have resources for that. No, we don’t lack space and the house is still a good place for us but the “environment” outside our home has become too ugly for comfort and we don’t really feel safe at all.

Perhaps in due time. Sana nga.

Hi Julie. Re but the “environment” outside our home has become too ugly for comfort: Hay, naku, one of the major reasons for our move. Believe it or not, a squatter family that got ejected from a nearby subdivision built a junk shop on the roadside. Today, the junk shop is a sari-sari store too. And a house. And a tambayan for all sorts of tomador. I don’t know really what kind of zoning laws we have in this country.

“6 times in the last 7 years”

Susme. And I thought moving 4 times in the last 16 years was too much.

I echo Kat’s comments; I love the ending of this article. Parang dapat may picture ng sunset para full effect. :)

Congratulations again inyong bagong bahay.

Alam mo, Nikita, I haven’t witnessed a sunset yet dun sa new house. When we move, among the first photos will be of the sunrise and the sunset. Kinda symbolic, don’t you think? Sunrise, because it is a new beginning. Sunset, because we intend to grow old there. :)
