The 66-foot memorial monument to the President of the Commonwealth Republic, Manuel Luis Quezon, stands on an expanse of 27-hectare circular lot (numbers from WOW Philippines) that had been developed during the last two decades as a park complete with restaurants and flea market.

Made from Carrara marble, the three pylons represent the three main geographic regions of the Philippines — Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao (Wikipedia). Built at a time when Quezon City was the capital of the Philippines, across the Elliptical Road, the Quezon Memorial Circle is surrounded by government office buildings.

Today, beyond the office buildings are urban poor communities that continue to grow.

Hehe… the castle-like “inverted trapezoid” structure just behind the squatter’s area is the gymnasium of Philippine Science High School.
Brings back memories… hehe
