Protest march: alleged rape of Filipina in Okinawa

soldierAmerican soldiers allegedly raped a Japanese and a Filipina in Okinawa.

When I saw the video footage of the protest march, my immediate reaction was to wonder why the protest had been staged when the rape is a mere allegation at this point and is still under investigation. To say that the march was premature would be an understatement. But then, of course, it was International Women’s Day and the “alleged” part was being played out as “proved.” Savvy political move but let’s not talk about objectivity.

“Abuse of women and children abounds where US military personnel are stationed — this is true in Japan and Korea as well as Mindanao,” said group spokeswoman Virginia Suarez Pinlac…

Ummm… don’t know about that but I do feel that strong military presence anywhere is NOT normal.
