In Europe, 42 consumer groups want the following food colorings banned:
The reason: These food colorings alter the behavior of children while they impart no real benefit to food except to make them more visually attractive.
Wait… isn’t that precisely the purpose of food coloring? To enhance the appearance of food? I don’t remember anyone claiming that they make food more healthy.
It makes more sense to ban the use of food colorings totally and not selectively since the altered appearance of food cheat consumers and push them to buy food based on appearance rather than real nutritional value.

1Well, speaking of behavior alteration, am not sure if you’d read this before, but it talks about how lead content in gasoline might have altered the behavior of people in the lead-polluted world:

2That’s an very interesting site, Jon. Re lead in fuel: that would aptly explain the continuous rise of crime rate in urban areas.

4That’s why they say, wrapping daing in old newspapers shouldn’t be banned. Until someone said they use a different, and non-toxic, kind of ink these days. Who’s lying and who’s not is anyone’s guess.
