Pre-nuptial agreement

by Connie Veneracion on November 20, 2006

I’m not a believer that, once married, “what is mine, is yours.” I used to kid my husband that if I were to articulate it, it would be, “What is yours, is mine, and what is mine, is mine.” Kidding aside, even in the absence of a pre-nuptial agreement to keep each spouse’s properties separate, I’ve always considered it more mature to keep tab of the separate earnings and properties of each spouse. It’s wise. It’s the adult thing to do.

But I was really blown away at the kind of pre-nups bred in Hollywood these days, especially the one between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

This being a Hollywood wedding, the prenuptial deal had already been struck. Holmes and her daughter will receive $US14.7million ($19.1million) in the event of a split, $US25.7million if it goes to divorce, and each infidelity will cost $US5million. Peachy.

Hollywood pre-nup, indeed!

$5M for each infidelity? Wow, that’s a lot of moolah to dish out for bad behavior!!

and i kinda think that 5 mil for each infidelity means there is a presumption that at least more than one infidelity would be forgiven and not lead to a separation or a divorce. or, maybe, and i like this interpretation better, if there is a separation or a divorce, then there will be an additional 5 million for every infidelity that is proved or admitted. hehehe

Considering HIS net worth, it’s a good deal for him hehe.

I don’t know, Connie, but this Cruise-Holmes wedding seems like another “setup.” Pardon me for being cynical, but it was only Rock Hudson who was loved enough by the Hollywood community and, therefore, didn’t have to go through this circus-like PR madness. Only once he had to do it, I think, but after that he was left alone even by the media.

But speaking of pre-nups, the proposal that Jackie Kennedy presented to Aristotle Onnasis almost gave the Greek tycon a heart attack, which convinced many that their wedding wasn’t going to happen. But at the last minute, the old man did give in. Insiders claimed it seemed more like a corporate merger instead of a pre-nup.

Eric, you mean the alleged terms of the pre-nup is just media hype? well… everything about Tom and Katie had been a media hype from the start — from the Eiffel Tower proposal to the castle wedding. Funny thing is — despite the obvious “drama” they really did happen. Maybe, Hollywood breeds a penchant for being overly dramatic hehehe
