Poverty is Gloria Arroyo’s fault

From the Financial Times:

The Philippines’ poverty rate has risen for the first time since the Asian financial crisis, according to a new government report that deals a blow to Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s plans to halve the ranks of the country’s poor.

At the rate that the poor reproduce, and I’m talking about non-stop child births, that there are more poor today and that the poor have become even poorer should not be surprising. The chief economist of the ADB says as much — uncontrolled population growth is a significant factor.

But how is that the fault of Gloria Arroyo? Simple. She’s too chicken to veer away from the Catholic pressure. She has failed all these years to come up with a realistic birth control and family management program. She’s still insisting that abstention from sex, and the rhythm and withdrawal methods are the way to go. Yeah, right.
