PMN Fam Pics, 1st edition: A very glossy story

by Connie Veneracion on August 6, 2007

The theme is GLOSSY. Participating members of PMN posts photos illustrating the theme and links to participating entries are collated and posted in all participants’ blogs.

I was going through my hard drive wondering what the difference was between “glossy” and “shiny” and decided that for purposes of the Fam Pics project, they’re the same. Otherwise, I’d be spending hours getting the semantics right instead of making it to the deadline.

1) Glossy family car

family car

We used to have two but now there’s only one. We sold the other when we moved to the suburb because there’s no room for a second car. Our family car is dark blue and glossy on occasion. To be more precise, it’s glossy when it’s newly washed and the gloss almost always lasts for only a few hours. That’s because there’s a jinx somewhere. Every time Speedy gets the car washed, it rains. And driving through mud and puddles ensures that the car retains none of its glossy appearance for far too long.

The irony is that if the car doesn’t get washed, it doesn’t rain either.

If you want a reliable weather prediction service, ask me when the next scheduled car wash will be and I’ll tell you when the next rains will come.

2) My cooking pots, still glossy after over 10 years

glossy cooking pots

I kid you not. They are that OLD. And, except for the superficial scratches, they are as glossy as they day I bought them. German brand I can’t pronounce nor remember. From Unimart. For just over a thousand pesos. Of course, that’s over 10 years ago.

3) Egg pie with a glossy surface

custard

Everyone in my family loves egg pie. The commercial kind has a browned top; I managed to bake one with a glossy top. The secret is honey.

4) Glossy cake icing

When a niece celebrated her 18th birthday recently, her mom ordered a special caramel cake for her from Estrel’s. It tasted even better than it looked. :)

And that ends my very glossy story.

I hear you about the rain predictions. The same thing happens after Scott washes our car.

I still haven’t decided what to submit for this theme. I’m stumped. Hopefully before deadline..

Nice pots!! Now, a thousand bucks will get you only one decent pot.

Estrel’s is the best. Have you tasted their apple crumble squares? Nakaka-addict :)

Pareho si Speedy at asawa ko ng jinx. May balat sa pwet siguro. After magpalinis ng kotse, siguradong umuulan.

Please post the recipe for your eggpie. It looks really delicious :)

Ooohh, considering how we’re almost having a drought in the Philippines, perhaps, if everyone washed his car on the same day at the same time, the rains will come…

Dexie, bilis, 4 hours to go… LOL

Kongkong, yah, the prices these days are terrible. One thousand nga, made in China pa yun. Manipis. Haven’t tried apple crumble yet. Layo kasi sa amin ng Estrel’s.

Re recipe. “Egg pie” after the number 3 above is a link. :)

Hi Connie. Funny, I remember one time when my husband spent a lot of time washing the car and putting on some tire block for a sleek finish. Then after a few minutes, there was a heavy downpour. Kainis no!

Nice cooking pots. A good investment.

Those desserts are mouth watering.

5

Connie 08.06.07 at 8:27 pm

O, Rach, asawa mo rin? Dapat talaga clean the cars at the same time to end this hot and humid weather.

6

rolly 08.06.07 at 8:37 pm

This is getting freaky. I have always blamed myself for the rain brought about by my having washed the car. The cleaner it gets, the harder the rain. Guess what happens if I polish it - a typhoon is coming.

Connie 08.06.07 at 9:24 pm

Ano ba yan… yung ad pa na labas nang labas after the entry is Great Hurrican Relief.

Mitchteryosa 08.06.07 at 10:33 pm

Di ako makarelate sa car kaya sa laman-tiyan ako magcocomment hehe!

Talagang may kasamang ganun eh no, yung eggpie waaaaaaaaah!

Ikaw ba hugas nyang pots na yan? Kintab!

9

Connie 08.06.07 at 11:34 pm

HEhehehe dati ako. For the past 4 months, hindi na hehehehe

10

feng 08.06.07 at 11:44 pm

re: car “the gloss almost always lasts for only a few hours. That’s because there’s a jinx somewhere” — i’ve always thought of the same. bakit nga ba nananadya ang panahon? pag maglilinis ng kotse, saka naman umuulan.

hmmm, scrumptious Estrel cake and the egg pie, yummmmmy.

glossing glossy ang mga pots mo Connie. parang si Speedy nag-linis nyan ah. :)

11

Connie 08.07.07 at 12:01 am

Hi Feng, re “parang si Speedy nag-linis nyan ah”

Nakow, hindi nya forte yan hahahahaha

12

analyse 08.07.07 at 1:16 am

old appliances seem to be better in quality nga.. now, ang mahal na nga, ang nipis pa.

13

cheH 08.07.07 at 5:25 am

BTW,I hope you don’t mind for tagging you. I know this tag isn’t your thing but this one is interesting.I really hope you’ll join us:)

KK 08.07.07 at 5:44 am

Re: the car, bakit ganon ano? I clean our mini-van with matching detail then it gets dirty really quick. Mahal pa handwash and detailing dito: $75+

Wow naman yung mga calderos mo Ate Connie, alagang-alaga.

Both the egg pie and cake looks too tempting.

15

raqgold 08.07.07 at 6:40 am

re: car — when the car is clean, it is MY car; when it is dirty, it is my husband’s car :-) sarap naman ng glossy mo!

16

lady cess 08.07.07 at 7:41 am

ang lakas ng ulan kahapon. so that means ganado kayong magpa-car wash kahapon ? :D lol!

the egg pie looks … no, yummy is too lame… divine! it’s the most beautiful slice of egg pie i have ever seen. :)

good investment nga ang pots. :)

17

chateau 08.07.07 at 7:43 am

I was thinking of posting a glossy photo of my car too(back in her glory days haha).
Wow, your pots sure look good. Matyaga ka mag clean and scrub ha.
Egg pie.. caramel cake.. mmmm. i haven’t had breakfast yet!

18

Leah 08.07.07 at 8:14 am

Great photos for the Fam pics hunt. I love the cake photo the best…now i have to click on that recipe for sure.

btw, your kitchen looks really clean and those pots are really shiny.

Connie 08.07.07 at 10:05 am

analyse, yeah the prices are shocking. i was gonna buy a piece bigger than the biggest in the set in the photo. grabe yung prices. sabi ko saka na lang.

cheH, P1,000+ yung set of three pans. And it was the last set. Sira-sira na nga yung box. Galing, ano? ‘Lam nyo naman ako, husay sa bargain hehehe CHeck ko yung tag. :)

KK, alam mo kahit chopping board dito tumatagal. I remember buying a wooden chopping board in Baguio a few years ago. Tapos bumili din friend ko. Yung kanila wala pa 1 year, wala na. Yung sa amin buhay pa. And they eat out most of the time. Ako, I cook everyday.

raqgold, i like your reasoning. i have something similar which i always tell speedy: “what is mine, is mine; what is yours is still mine.” hehehe

lady cess, madali lang gawin yung egg pie. try it some time. :)

Chats, alam mo naman, kitchen is my thing. It’s the only part of the house that I don’t mind cleaning. The rest? Hay, naku, bahala sila!

Leah, Sam took that photo. :)

20

cheH 08.07.07 at 12:55 pm

Yehey! Thanks connie! hintay ko na lang:)

21

Mitchteryosa 08.07.07 at 2:35 pm

Nasa Pinoy Cook site mo ba yung recipe ng eggpie?

22

Connie 08.07.07 at 3:50 pm

Oh, eh di yung kay Mitch na tag gagawin ko na rin hehehe

Mitch yung “egg pie” sa entry (above the photo) is a link.

23

Mitchteryosa 08.07.07 at 4:34 pm

Ay uu nga, thanks! Try ko nga kung kaya ko hehe!

24

Lynn 08.07.07 at 9:49 pm

What can I say about the glossy pots…pang-scotch brite commercial.

Looks like there’s leche flan on top. But it’s egg pie! Now I’m craving for one.

25

Sam 08.08.07 at 2:12 pm

..and you’re a Mac user?

26

Connie 08.08.07 at 2:54 pm

Easy to make, Lynn. And the sense of achievement tops nothing LOL

Yes, Sam, I am. Wow, that sounds like something out of Dr. Seuss.

27

julie 08.09.07 at 12:18 pm

Connie! I love Estrel’s caramel cake!

I think we have the same car, :) Plus the same predicament that when Brian washes the car or have it washed, it rains. Hehehe…Gone is the glossy black interior.

I am very sorry to have missed the PMN Fam pics. Phone line got busted from Sunday till Tuesday. I told myself I wouldn’t miss it since I haven’s missed a PhotoHUnters theme since I joined it, sigh. Next month na lang po, :)

28

Jane 08.10.07 at 12:14 am

Siguro thinking BIG ako. I went through all my pics na ata sa hard drive ko and nothing fit GLOSSY.

But just now, a thought came to my mind. Dapat kinunan ko forehead ng hubby ko no? Glossy yun, hahaha. Kaya lang, baka mapikon….

Next time nalang!

Josie 09.24.07 at 2:51 am

Your pots put mine to shame. They must’ve “endured” a lot of cooking in the past 10 years - and yet they look remarkably new. May ginagamit ka bang special detergent?

I can’t wait to taste that caramel cake from Estrel’s.

30

Connie 09.25.07 at 9:08 am

Josie, no special detergent. Basta hugas lang agad pagkagamit as much as possible.
