Less than a month ago, I posted an entry in the cat and kitten blog about our male Persian kitten’s penchant for roving.
An ironing woman, Michelle, comes in three times a week. When I opened the gate for her last Tuesday, the male Persian kitten, Salt, snuck under the gate. He was coming in, not going out. Michelle said she found him outside the gate.
Yesterday was even worse. When I opened the gate, Michelle was holding Salt. She said she saw a little boy a few meters from out gate holding Salt. She called to the boy to tell him that the kitten belonged to us.
I panicked.
For some reason, it is just Salt, the male Persian kitten, who seems to have a penchant for roving. His partner, Pepper, does not even show any interest in the outdoors save for our rear garden. But Salt is different. When someone opens the front door, he would sneak out and run to the garage. Most times, we had to catch him before the car could enter the garage so that he wouldn’t get run over.
We never got around to buying the pet collars. Now, the worst has happened. Salt has been missing for two nights and two days and everyone in the house is depressed. Our other cats, well, except Pepper, roamed too but they always came back. The problem is that Salt is a Persian kitten and anyone who knows about cats and kittens will realize that he can be sold for a couple of thousand pesos.

Speedy is having that poster printed in the office and we’re going to post several copies on the front gate.
We’re still hopeful. Alex, especially. Salt is her kitten, actually. For two days, the first thing she asked upon waking up was whether Salt had returned. It’s heart-wrenching to tell her that he’s still missing. She’s being brave about it but I know how terribly she must feel. I feel terrible. She must be feeling worse. It’s just one of those times when I feel so darned helpless.

I hope you find him too. I would be sad if that happened to me.

Cats have a way of turning up. My aunt lost her cat for a week, he just sauntered in after being gone for 6 days, not realizing they had put out 100+ flyers and driven around the neighborhood countless times the whole time he was gone…
crazy cats….

not to be too negative, a kitten is kinda hard to get back unless someone can bring it back. lauren’s siamese disappeared twice but he was a full grown cat. We had posters all over the village. He returned after a week.

He isn’t back yet.

I hope you find him. He must be scared and wondering where his family is (he has a good life with you guys). I also hope he won’t be prey to nasty dogs/bigger animals/ naughty kids or bored drunkards. I have 2 indoor cats and I just can’t imagine how hard it would be if I lose one of them–they’re a part of our family already. So when I bring them out in our courtyard or front lawn, they are closely supervised. One of them is 20 lbs so I am sure he wouldn’t run (he can’t–he is too heavy!) but the other one is lighter (and sneakier!)so mas gwardyado sya. Hope next time we log in here, you have Salt back already. Good luck!

Maybe he is still too young to know his way around. I hope too that one day he returns, but sorry, Connie, I dont like to say it, but pets like Salt are attractive to “petnappers”.

Is he back yet? I hope you find him…What a coincidence - my sister’s cats are named Salty and Pepper.

When our nursing mom of a Siberian Husky, Denise, went for a long stroll last year and could not fin her way back, Nico posted flyers in all the sari sari stores around (probably because the folks there know everything that’s going on in Baguio), promising a reward. Denise is worth way more than the Php45,000 we got her for.
Of course we got a lot of crazy phone calls like “masarap pala ang imported na aso” or “send me load and I will tell you where she is” or “give me Php10,000 and I will return her” but she was found and returned by a very honest young widower of a carpenter after a few days. Of course he got a reward!
Hope you get your kitten back.

Thank you to everyone. I don’t want to be depressed anymore. I don’t think we’re going to find Salt anymore. It’s been a week… I still get startled when I hear rustling by the windows, hoping it’s him. It never is. We’re just hoping that whoever took him is taking very good care of him and feeding him well. We will always miss him.
