Once upon a time, she wanted to be a chef
If you’ve read the UPCAT story, this is the sequel.
Last night, Sam finally frosted enough cupcakes to make her arm ache. I bought two boxes of disposable pastry bags last week. I baked the cupcakes late yesterday afternoon. I prepared the cream cheese frosting a few hours later. Sam was excitedly waiting for the cupcakes to cool so she could frost them but Alex and I were starving and we each ate one sans frosting. Sam screamed at us but, hey, she still had 12 cupcakes left. By the time she was done, there was dried red, blue and yellow food color running down her arms. And on her lips too.

She experimented with the different tips…

… didn’t like the first few ones she did and she leveled the frosting with the back of a spoon. But by the time she was into her fourth cupcake…

I hope the two-toned frosting is discernible. For someone who never attended baking classes, well, I really think she ought to rethink her dream of becoming a chef before she decided she was going to be a professional photographer.

Of course, it got messy. And since the house helpers had gone to bed by the time the 12th cupcake was frosted, Sam and I had to clean up. I didn’t mind. I was happy that she was happy. After cleaning up, it was time to enjoy the cupcakes. Darn, they were good. Will post the recipe You’ll find the recipe in Pinoy Cook.

Marvelous! Chef Sam is very talented! hehehe… daig pa ang Pro! super tiyaga nya mag-detail! Like mommy, like daughter anoh?!
Go girl!
Very nice-looking cupcakes!
Sam should be a food stylist too. She could bake (?) and has an eye for the perfect photo. she bakes, she styles, she shoots.
Thanks, Wen. I’ll show her.
Phynkee, with food decorating she’s better. I don’t have the patience hehehe
Asianmommy, delicious pa!
But the ones with blue frosting weirded me out. LOL
Kotsengkuba, errr, I took the photos. And I baked the cupcakes. She can’t bake LOL She just plays with the decorating hehehe
Wow ang galing naman ni sam! mouthwatering cupcakes.
Those cupcakes look amazing! Out of curiosity and since I’m no baker or cupcake decorator, how did she do the two-toned frosting? Did she put both colors in the pastry bag?
I see a Pinoy Rachel Ray on the making …and, she only makes approximately $18 mil a year. If I have Sam’s talent, i will go to the best cooking school for chefs in the country. If you need help on the design and planning of your own restaurant in the future, my consultation services is libre.
cooking is not just a talent… but passion. I work in food related industry and most chefs I worked for really digs what they are doing.
One girl who trained to classical french cooking had an MBA but she followed her passion….
purplegirl, yes, that’s how she did it.
sha, ah, there lies the rub. Her passion is in photography. I suppose the interest in cooking has more to do with creative expression than any real desire to feed us hehehe
Honestly, this is my first time to see such very intricate frosting. Congrats, Sam! Those cup cakes will surely be a hit with kids. Very attractive. I agree, Sam should rethink her dream of becoming a chef.
So intricate her arms went stiff hehehe I salute her patience and attention to details though.
Agree. Talent plus passion equals success. How about making a difference by creating employment and financial opportunities for other Filipinos? Whatever you do Sam, I’m sure your family will support you 300%.
I agree that what she did was more of an art exhibition rather than cooking skills. Does someone has to be a chef to be a food decorator?
I saw a few food photography books from Amazon, though I don’t get to open them since I only see the covers on the internet. But I hope I could have one in the future.
Sequel to the UPCAT story pala. Baka may episode 3 pa?
Professional Food Photographer / Cook sounds good. Eh di parang ikaw din yun! Talent really runs in your family. I have yet to try something as intricate as those cupcakes. Really nice!
She’s got talent in the kitchen. She can be both anyway. A chef who styles her own food and takes photos of them. She can save a lot there. He he.
From the photos, I think Sam is getting to be very talented!
Talented and expensive LOL
