There are four kinds of footwear in the Philippine market: locally made, legally imported foreign brands, export overruns and imitations.
The first two are self-explanatory; the difference between the third and the fourth are explained in my op-ed column today. I actually intended that article to be my first entry in the Mothers as consumers series. But I got caught up in Alex’s excitement to watch The Matrix Reloaded for the nth time (she has memorized most of the dialogue) and I ran short of time to write another piece for the column.
At any rate, the so-called export overruns in Cartimar is not only a mommy concern but really ought to be the concern of the government. From that perspective, it did make more sense to have it published in the newspaper.
