On blog awards and cats

By Connie Veneracion on April 1, 2007

Speedy, Sam and Alex went with me to the Philippine Weblog Awards ceremony. We left before the program concluded to rush to the joint birthday party of two friends. It’s 2.03 a.m. and we’ve been home for about an hour, long enough for me to kick off the high heels, remove my make-up, take-off the evening clothes and take a long luxurious shower. It’s been a heck of a day. No, actually, it’s been a heck of a week. Well, that’s not even very accurate — it’s been a heck of a month.

Congratulations to all the winners. Bryanboy was on my IM earlier and we were going to meet and get introduced but he was late so there was no time to chat before the program started. And I couldn’t stay afterwards because, like I said, we had a party to go to. Next time, Bryanboy, and I hope your mom gets well soon.

I would have wanted to meet Toni too… I did meet Mae whose blog design I so adore. I finally met Lori. Lori, Noemi, Wysgal, Chuvaness and I appeared in an article about women bloggers in Marie Claire magazine last month. Anyway, Lori said something about how I started food blogging in the Philippines… well, what she said after that really touched me but being the “bato” that I am (a term Sam uses to describe how I never display mushy emotions publicly), I glossed over it because I didn’t want to let anyone know how deeply I was touched. If she ever gets to read this entry, she’ll understand.

It was great to see Ajay again after more than two years. I’m very happy for Max and Batjay who won in the Best Technology and Best OFW categories, respectively.

You will find the list of winners and awardees here.

All in all, I think the first Philippine Weblog Awards went well. However, I feel that there is truth to criticisms that some of the finalists, including one blog that won, do not really embody the intention to pay homage to “grassroots bloggers” who have built up their blogs from their own efforts, as it says on the Philippine Weblog Awards site. And, now that it is all over I can say this, as a judge I sought the disqualification of at least one finalist because more than half of its content were photos lifted from other sites with strict ALL RIGHTS RESERVED notices on their pages. I just don’t feel it is right to give positive recognition to any blog whose owner does not respect other people’s copyright.

I have no idea who the judges were for the Globe Broadband Awards. But thank you for choosing this blog for the Blog Achievement Award. The plaque says Blog Achievement Award for exceptional blogging and I feel like I received a lifetime achievement award or something. It feels weird, really, considering that I tried to sell this domain not too long ago because I was too focused on The Sassy Lawyer’s Journal. This domain served as a mere aggregator for all my other blogs for a long time until I decided to move the contents of Mommy Talks here and revive it as something distinctly different from The Sassy Lawyer’s Journal. I made the right decision, as it turns out.

Well… I guess I’ve written everything I meant to about the first Philippine Weblog Awards. It’s late and I have to get up early because we’re planning to go to Cartimar to buy a Persian cat or two — IF the price is right.

    congratulations!

“want to thank my wife for having good taste. i want to thank my parents for loving me and giving me baon. i also want to thank god for
making me pogi. i also wish for world peace!

    idol talaga kita.

Congratulations Sassy and Great to see you again!

Connie, you looked absolutely radiant. It was great to see you and your family (and be your seatmate too) Congratulations:)

    Hi Connie!

    Congratulations!

Wish I had gone there last night, but have family affair to attend to. Would have loved to meet you and Noemi.

    Cheers!

    Eric

it was so nice to see you there Ms. Connie! You made my day, really you do! ^__^ And congrats for winning the achievement award, you deserve it ;)

congrats connie. Nice seeing you there with the whole family. Your kids and husband are so supportive of you. You’re such a fun person to talk to. Sige, let’s meet one of these days. I am almost settled in.

Salamat, salamat! At congrats din sa lahat pati so finalists.

On a side note… ang hirap maging judge! Grabe lalo na pag walang itulak kabigin yung finalists dahil lahat mahuhusay. One tip, though — consistency (no yawning gaps in posting) and user-friendly navigation count.

Congratulations Connie! You really deserve the recognition. God bless and more power! :D

It was great to see you there. :-)

Sa wakas at nakita na rin kita, but this marks the, oh, second or third time that we happen to be in the same room and not be introduced to one another!

I was wondering why were you in such a hurry to leave; now I know why.

hi ms. connie, sayang, wasn’t able to approach you. i was sort of late and you left early. congratulations nonetheless! napangiti ako nung inannounce mo yung winner sa isang category. you didnt seem satisfied. hehe.

    congratulations connie :)

I wish there had been more time to socialize. Actually, umiwas ako to socialize before the winners were announced kasi I might be asked about the judging and I wouldn’t have wanted to comment…

Congrats Ms. Connie! Deserving indeed. *claps*

I have to agree with Lori that you started food blog here in the Philippines. Yours is actually the very first Filipino food blog I visit often, kasi naman wala naman iba talaga meron mahanap na offered recipe na truly Pinoy and that I can feel I could trust. Eh yours always come out great! Detailed pa ang posts.Pareho pa kayo ng mom ko, influenced by Mr. Yan. I remember getting very disappointed before when I looked for some local recipes and I couldn’t find a good source. But one day, all of a sudden I was led to your site!

Sana someday, I can meet you too. I look up to you talaga. All your blogs are interesting. I’ve been checking all your blogs so often.

By the way, ever consider a big event/eyeball for your readers? :)

    Salamat, phynkee.

Rhodora, di ka pa tumuloy dun?

Pinaygourmand, salamt. Re EB, alam mo I am a bad organizer that’s why hindi ko inambisyon yan hehehe But why not? Perhaps, when I have more time. :)

    hello connie, congrats!

Hi Ms Sassy! Akala ko you will just be a judge in the Awards night, winner ka din pala! Big time award pa, Blog Achievement Award, parang ala lifetime achievement. Was hoping you would post some photos too kasi wanted to see you wearing your new shoes hehehe. Your photo in Anton’s blog was only half body :P. I agree with pinaygourmand, your recipes are great, very easy to follow and complete details ang post with step by step photos pa at times. Congrats again! Woohoo!

    Connie,

An achievement award? It sounds like a gold watch. ;-)

    Bvest

Congrats, Connie. Tamang-tama ang Blog Achievement Award sa iyo. Parang “Hall of Fame,” kahit unang bloggies pa lang.

[...] si Connie (aka The Sassy Lawyer) na pinarangalan ng Blog Achievement Award para sa kanyang The Mommy Journals–na di ko napansing nagpalit ng pangalan mula sa House on A Hill–at Noemi na nagkamit [...]

congratulations to you and to the organizers of the PBAwards.

Sayang, I would have been there, too, had it not been my daughter’s high school graduation. Tagal na tayong di nagkita ah.

Connie! I really wanted to meet you too! We were in the same area lang naman sa audience pero didn’t get a chance to chat. I’m sure we’ll meet sometime. I sure wanted to talk to you too! I kept telling my husband, “Si Connie yan! Si Connie yan!” Hehehe. Na-starstruck ako at di tuloy ako makalapit.

    Salamat sa inyo.

Elit, I was a judge for the main category. :)

Tito Rolls, graduation season kasi eh. Congrats sa anak mo at sa inyong mag-asawa. Milestone na naman.

Happy, diamond studded gold watch hehehehe

Toni, nakuuuu when we arrived someone told me you were already there. But I had to feed my kids first kasi baka magutom eh mag-alboroto dun. Congrats, congrats, congrats. You are one of the most deserving winners of the night.

Congrats Connie. You truly deserve that Achievement Award :)

Lifetime achievement award naman talaga yung sayo eh. =) Congrats Connie, nice to see you there! Ano nga pala yung mga tini-tsismis nila Abe sayo? Hehehe.

    Thanks, Dexie and Markku.

    Hello!

    Congratulations and more power! :D

    Salamat, Regnard.

Of course, you’re an exceptional blogger, Connie. No doubt about that. You really deserve that award. I’ve never seen a Pinoy blogger as diligent and thorough as you are.

    Congratulations and all the best!

Thank you, jayred. :) Re diligent. Alam mo, recently acquired yan. Well, relatively recent. Since naging nanay ako. When I was a student, diligence was not in my vocabulary. hehehe

    Hi Connie,
Salamat and congrats din for your very well-deserved award. Let me just say that I’m writing this on an Ubuntu Feisty Fawn setup :-) . Yes!!! I finished installing it the night I texted you but spent hours upon hours playing with applications and settings. Salamat and I still owe you an email about the independent media thing :-).

Thanks, Max. Wow, naka-Ubuntu na sya. I’m next. :)

congrats, Connie. you really deserve the award–you have touched the hearts of so many!

    Congratulations on the your award!

You truly inspire me, I’m very new to the blogosphere.

    God bless!
