No People Power without military support

ON FEBRUARY 29th several thousand anti-government demonstrators gathered in Manila to demand the resignation of President Gloria Arroyo. So far, so usual…
But this was only a demonstration. Street protests have never toppled a Philippine president without support from the armed forces.
True. Makes one wonder why people are so convinced that it is the power of the masses that drives presidents out. Too full of themselves, I suppose, to see the obvious. People Power is not genuine people power because it is nothing unless the military is behind it.
