The Philippines today has the highest birth rate in Asia.
”If our birth rate is to go unchecked, it will impact on food production, health and education services, the environment, housing and so on. It will be a major problem for any government,” he [Tomas Osias, executive director of the Commission on Population] said. [The Manila Bulletin]
Among the presidential candidates, only Ping Lacson has dared to defy the position of the influential Catholic Church. Gloria Arroyo has always stressed her government’s adherence to Catholic dictums. Raul Roco, Eddie Villanueva and Fernando Poe Jr. are all using big words like “population management”, “family management” and “responsibly planned parenthood” without squarely addressing the issue of birth control.
For how much longer can we ignore the issue of overpopulation and the anti-progress effect of bowing to the wishes of the Catholic Church?Lagi namang nasa huli ang pagsisisi.
