I like kids with spirit, but this is too much

From grade school through law school, there were teachers I wanted to do bad things to. Slap them, trip them down the stairs, maybe pay a mangkukulam to give them a bad rash or a month-long diarrhea… But save for the times when I answered back in what convention considered a disrespectful manner, I never did them physical harm. Of course, I brought an administrative complaint against a high school teacher for which she got a reprimand but that was it.

Was I chicken compared to these nine-year-old kids who “brought a broken steak knife, handcuffs and electrical tape to school in a plot to injure their teacher”?

From Reuters:

Teachers at Center Elementary School in Waycross, Georgia, uncovered the plot on Friday when a pupil reported that a child in the third grade had brought a weapon into the school.

“The plan was to handcuff the teacher, put tape over her mouth and hit her over the head with the paperweight and possibly cut her,” said Lt. Duane Caswell of Waycross police, adding that some students said the knife was simply there to cut the tape.

“It was a rather elaborate scheme for children of that age,” he said.

The students spent a week planning the attack and planned to carry it out on the day they were caught, Caswell said.

Handcuffs? Any of the students’ parents a cop?

What the Reuters report did not mention was what drove the children to do it. According to Waycross Journal (via SchoolFinder), the target teacher, Belle Carter, is “teacher of the year” who is due to “retire at the end of the school year after about 30 years in the education field.” Carter specializes in educating children with learning disabilities but the Waycross Journal report quotes the principal who says none of those involved were special children. The same report says that the student who reported the whole thing got threatened with a knife.

What’s this? Watching too much violence on TV and the internet or experiencing too much violence in real life?

Uncommon Misconceptions has a nice rebuttal to the school principal’s claim that the incident was isolated and an aberration.

ano ba, nakakatakot ang batang yan. for that age? most probably his actions were derived from real life experience. san ka naman nakakita ng batang ganyan.

This reminded me of an Irish girl who thought she was calling the “demolition” man and wanted her school to be bombed making sure that her teachers are inside. Connie rin ata pangalan niya. i think I sent you that recording.

Anyway, when 9 year olds are plotting murder, we know something is wrong not only with the school but with society as a whole.

This reminded me when I was in college college our classrooms were located in the Basement of our School,At that time we experienced annoying blackout every now and then.My classroom was adjacent to a classroom where their instructor were tagged by his student a terrorist, not that kind of Al queda or JI of course,This instructor passes ony five to ten students of 50to 60 students in his class,so many students have to repeat the subjects over again and some students repeat it at least 3times.Some students curse him to high heaven , but they have no choice as he is the only teacher that handles the subject before, Physics 1&2.Better be good on him on Physics 1 because you will meet him again in Physics2 thats scare them hahaha. So it happened one day in his Physics 2 class a blackout occurred were in a basement ,its in total darkness suddenly we heard a commotion in his classroom, shouting and lots of strange noises and when the light came in from the back up generator,we saw the instructor hiding under his small table, his students threw all sorts of thing on him including chairs and tables, books and pens hah ha ha.Well after the incident he was a changed man,Ive a good grade from him when I enrolled in his class after the incident.Lucky me.

    This is an OT one.

If you are patronizing Padi’s Point, one thing you will notice is you’re going to be body searched for any concealed weapon, bladed knife in particular, if you want to enter their establishment. Bringing in any kind of deadly weapons inside their establishment is not allowed.

The funny thing – when you order your pulutan such as sisig or grilled llempo, it will be served with a serving knife. A serrated 4 inch blade knife.

Years ago there was a rumour in a barrio in Nueva Ecija. A “gang” of schoolboys (grade four yata) raped a classmate.
Here in the UK, the yobs are out of control. Partly due to media, but mostly lack of discipline & guidance.

It is one those generation gaps. Americans never understood Columbine massacre to Virginia tech rampage Korean shooter Cho. Neither is something unique nor particularly American experience.

We live in an increasingly technologically advance world with self expression. Our kids glamorize violence in games and big screens which incidentally the military establishment found so effective in recruitment research study.

We save the whales but we will kill our enemies. And if you are rich enough, you can afford the diamond-studded black lace thong for your trophy girlfriend. Sign of times, is it?

Just moments ago, CNN featured an event from Florida,USA. A group of teen girls invited another girl 16 yrs old on a pretense of a party. As soon as the girl entered the house, he was beaten and ended up in the hospital with serious injuries. I thought I was bad growing up in the streets of Manila.
