Have I been whining too much about not having a house helper?

by Connie Veneracion on October 25, 2007

Just found this in my inbox:

Dear Host Family,

I am a mature and experienced Cook and Housekeeper looking for a family to work for. I have a good childcare experience and I am able to iron, clean, drive and do ALL the house tasks. I prefer a Portuguese or Spanish speaker family. Could you call me for an interview? If not, please send me your phone and I will call you. I can fly next week and start working.

Best Regards,

Maria Angela

Well…, if she can afford to pay for an overseas call, and “fly next week”, I don’t think we can afford the salary she expects.

Amazing that the sender’s e-mail address is hidden. So, of course, I reported the e-mail as spam.

Naloka nga ako nung nakita ko eh. Naisip ko, sobrang desperate na ba dating ko at pati mga foreigners nag-a-apply na? hehehe

Nakaka-windang haha :-D
Reminds me of this fwd email about an english-speaking helper…

I wonder what this person will say if you tell her what she’s likely to get?

If it wasn’t spam, I think the person will do a Road Runner act. LOL

Interesting. You could have had a brazilian housekeeper! Teach the kids a new language :)

Baligtad., ikaw pa ang mag-aadjust sa househelp applicant na yan. May language preference pa. Matindi nga.

damn. i’d take her over the Russian lady who even sent me a nice looking picture and asked me to make her my wife. I don’t need a wife, I need a maid…LOL.

you know what’s scary? the picture was decent. she wasn’t naked or anything so I know she was actually serious.

Mila, won’t she charge extra for tutoring?

Josie, makes me feel obliged to review my very bad Spanish.

Dexie, LOL you get even stranger emails than I do. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Sha, that expensive, huh? Well, we definitely cannot afford her then.

Here, an “au pair” gets around 700-1,000 Swiss francs a month, on top of board and lodging (full-time basis). Sometimes, foreign language education is part and parcel of the deal.

I know I need an “au pair,” being a bad housekeeper suffering from tendinitis, but it’s just too expensive to have one here. Maybe, I’ll work as an au pair instead. LOL

Cheers!
