Several days ago, a local TV show aired an episode about beauty pageants hot on the heels of the Janina San Miguel phenomenon blockbuster. The segment mentioned former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz and a famous question she once asked when she was a beauty pageant judge: “What would you choose — be smart or be beautiful?”
Understand that while Speedy and Sam were watching the show, I was only half listening because I was busy blogging. Alex was reading her daily dose of Manga online. Some jokes were exchanged between Speedy and Sam, then Speedy stood up, came over and asked me: Would I rather be smart or beautiful?
Without even thinking, I shot back: I don’t have to choose; I’m both. Naturally, Speedy was broadcasting my response all over the house and I could hear Sam laughing. Well, I challenge future beauty contestants to give a better answer to that question with all the poise and dignity of a woman who is both smart and beautiful.
A few commercials later, another segment began on the same show. This time, it was about colon cancer. Among the common symptoms of colon cancer mentioned was drastic loss of weight. I was still blogging, Speedy had gone back to the living room then I distinctly heard Sam say between bursts of laughter, “Daddy, wala kang colon cancer.” And I found myself laughing harder than Sam did when Speedy told her about my answer to the Gloria Diaz question.

If you didn’t catch the joke, there’s Speedy’s photo. And I’ll pre-empt any other future smart alecky observations — I show no symptoms of colon cancer either.

1Hahaha. Siempre, nakuha ko yung joke. Pero Smart din naman yung answer na mas gugustuhin niya nang maging maganda because matututunan mo rin namang maging smart di ba? And pagiging maganda, matututunan din kaya?

4There’s no dull moment in your house, it seems.
Reminds me of those times when we were growing up and any one of us 4 sisters who are told “kamukha mo si atty.(meaning our papa),” would frown. Papa would say “sige wala kang baon”, and the cheeky retort would be, “namigay na si mama kanina pa.”

6it is not sarcasm and it is not even “straight to the point” whatever it means. It’s pure insult. The word concern does not even mitigate the politically incorrect words used.
It is not even funny. I am not jumping to my seat to laugh.
Got manners?

7lemon, hahahaha, none of my girls like to be told either that they look like their father.
arny, I like him the way he is. We laugh at our jokes but we don’t encourage personal insults at home. Neither do I encourage it here. I share a personal anecdote and you insult my husband. Are your looks are so perfect to even try to justify your statement? Fuck off.
The Ca t, thank you! I do think it’s beyond the manners issue. A brain issue, more likely.
