Exaggerated dangers of internet

By Connie Veneracion on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 8:41 pm in ,

young child surfing webNew study that debunks myths about the dangers of the internet says that “The internet may not be as risky as a lot of other things that parents do without concern, such as driving kids to the mall and leaving them there for two hours.”

The article is Online Predators and their Victims, published in American Psychologist.

Compare with the contrary observations of a Jamaican resident (native?) who cites an example that made my eyes pop:

A five-year-old girl attacked a classmate in the bathroom at school, knocked her to the ground, then proceeded to engage in oral sex. I was stopped cold when I heard this story. At five, this child had already developed an appreciation for pornography, and I am told she is not unique.

Seriously?
