Don’t mock this cam phone
I used to scoff at cam phones. My gosh, how I snubbed the pathetic photos that cam phones coughed out.
That was then.
This is the Sony Ericsson K800i with its 3.2 megapixel camera, 16x digital zoom and image stabilizer.
I’m starting to change my mind about cam phones.
All photos were taken with FLASH OFF. The little thing can actually capture DEPTH. Amazing.
Except for the resizing and the addition of the signature, the photos were NOT digitally touched — not even sharpened.
No, this is not a paid post. I don’t do paid posts. And, no, it isn’t my phone. It is my daughter’s. Our advanced birthday gift to her (she’s turning 15 on August 20).
Me, I have an M600i — no cam because, like I said, from experience cam phones were just pathetic. Now I’m drooling over the P1i which I probably won’t be able to afford when it comes out. The rumored retail price is over P40k.
Hey, Chats, I know you’re thinking of getting a K800i. It looks good, Chats, it really looks good. ![]()
A third of what’s been written about me is true, a third is half-true and the rest consists of drug-induced hallucinations. I suppose I’d better let me, rather than them, tell you

aha! my husband was telling me about getting that model for himself, pero hindi ko pinapansin. so eto pala yon.
sabi ko kasi, tama na yung phone niya, an ericson na hindi ko alam ang model, but examples of the cam pics are those of my daughter crying.
pero oo nga mas maganda yan.. payag ako pero akin yan
Akala ko asawa mo bibili eh bat sayo yung K800i? hahahaha
And I saw those pics yesterday. Pinag-trip-an ng asawa mo si Dora ha. heheheh Ginawa din namin yan countless times when Sam and Alex were younger. Naka-video. Pag malalaki na, nagagalit. hahahaha
I recently got a K800i, mostly for the camera, and so far I really like it. I don’t carry my regular camera around with me everywhere I go. It’s just not convenient. But there’s so many times I wish I had a camera with me, and now I will.
This is the first camera phone (or perhaps better put, phone camera) I’ve seen that is good enough to make it worth while.
Hi there, Connie! I know, I know! That’s whyyy… (can you hear me whining?)
I’m using the baby sister which is the (mockable) K600i hehe… Having been an SE user for the past three years, I don’t know if I ever will be reformed back to Nokia. Love ‘em SE phones… ESP. K800i! I’m drooling, Sam…
Hi David. I have a second camera that is the size of my cell phone. Narrower even. But it’s still an extra gadget to carry along (mostly for taking photos where they won’t allow my DSLR hehehe). I never liked cam phones until I saw the resolution of the photos taken with the K800i. Impressive!
Chats, Chats, Chats… It’s time to get one hehehe Sam will chuckle all night again when she reads your comment hehehehe
After ditching Nokia some 2 or 3 years ago, I never looked back either. I had a Samsung before my M600i and they were both preferable to any Nokia I ever had.
pambihirang mga cellphone yan… maybe the later generations of mobile phone will outdate the current notebook capabilities and I’m not talking about the palm piltos. hard core gaming ito…
oooh, i want. tamang tama, i’m in the market for a new phone
kotsengkuba, i just saw your blog. kapatid mo si batjay? nakakatuwa ka mag-sulat. sana, ma-maintain mo yan kahit 4 o 5 years old na blog mo. hehehe
karen, i think the k800i is a good choice. happy happy anak ko eh.
nyay! baka magalit si batjay nyan. ang lagay e taga-hanga nya lang ako at hindi ko pa sya nakikita sa personal. pero salamat sa papuri
Looks OK. You should try Nokia N95..its a 5Megapixel beast!
Wow! That is impressive for a cam phone. Have you tried taking pictures of moving objects (e.g. toddlers)?
Depende rin sa phone, Connie. Kung Sony Ericsson, yes, okay nga siya. Like Chats, ayaw ko na rin ng Nokia. I have been using Samsung D900 since April. Okay din, but Sony has the best cam phone ever.
Wow! For a camera phones, those are awesome pictures!
Sam, I think that was what my hubby was checking out at one time.
My daughter has, Christianne. Football game hehehe Kaya nung K800i because of the image stabilizer.
rhodora, ah true, samsung phone have lousy cams. what i love about them, well, at least the clam models, is the size of the keypad. inis ako sa mga keypad na microscopic eh.
KK, tuwang-tuwa na si Sam nyan hehehehe
I keep telling myself to upgrade my cell, although I don’t need to spend on a new phone really. But one aspect I do want to upgrade is getting a better phone cam. Do you mind telling me (either here on the blog or by email) how much the Sony Ericsson is? Thanks Connie!
sony must have induced its powers when it comes to making digital cameras. thus, the new models of SE are on top of the hills when shooting pictures via cellphones.
Oh technology! What is it that you can’t do?
Mila, I e-mailed you.
Jervis, re “Oh technology! What is it that you can’t do?”
Oh, gosh, and I am so loving that!!!
I have the same phone and definitely worth the money. Forget the N95’s 5MP cam… the K800i still has better resolution than the N95’s cam. Although the N95 has better zoom capability and has force on for flash. Oh, well, I guess we can’t have it all.
[...] first learned about these 3.2 megapixel camera phone from Connie’s entry about a K800i. The blogger in me had since then knew that I should have one of those cam phones someday but I was [...]
