The ancient tree by the plaza

On the way to Roxas City from Boracay, we stopped in Kalibo for drinks, snacks and a quick trip to the rest rooms. I needed neither drinks nor food nor the rest room so I just stepped out of the van for a smoke. We were parked right in front of the plaza at the center of the town and there was this ancient tree, its huge branches shading us from the noonday sun.
I love old trees. Don’t ask me why. I really don’t know. I only know that old trees make me feel mortal and part of the universe all at once. I’ve written extensively about that in an article published in Code Red Magazine.
