Connie Veneracion, self-portrait for Sassy Lawyer column in Manila Standard Today

I hardly ever put on make-up. But when I need a formal photo, I put on make-up so that my face doesn’t look shiny. Depending on the available natural light, the skin can even look blotched without make-up and make-up evens out everything. But since moving to this house, I have failed to locate the box that contains the few make-up items that I own. When someone from the paper called to say they needed a photo of all the columnists, I kept hoping I’d find something appropriate in my hard drive that I could e-mail to them. I couldn’t find anything. I had to ditch my tattered shirt and faded shorts, don some decent clothes and mount the camera on a tripod. No make-up. No choice.
