Chocolatey interludes

by Connie Veneracion on February 19, 2007

One of the best things about having kids who enjoy experimenting in the kitchen is that I get to sample the fruits of their experiments. Ever since I discovered the cooking chocolate from a stall at SM Hypermarket, it’s been one long chocolate party in the house.

I’ve mentioned before that Sam and I have this midnight thing. Bonding moments at midnight when everyone else is fast asleep. We did it again last night. They had their school fair on Friday and Saturday and today was declared a rest day. So, it was okay to stay up late last night.

I was writing my piece for tomorrow’s op-ed column when she came out of the bedroom and declared that she felt like making some crepes. So, she did. What I wasn’t quite prepared for was the kind of crepes she whipped up. They were stuffed with melted chocolate. Too bad I wasn’t able to take photos. I was in the middle of some serious writing but that didn’t prevent me from downing two crepes. My, they were delicious.

And the obsession with chocolate continues today. About half an hour ago, Sam handed me a concoction of iced coffee with chocolate — in a wineglass at that. In this heat, it was such a welcome sight.

Not that I have a recipe to share — that’s why it makes more sense to post this entry here than in the food blog. Sam is rather secretive with her kitchen experiments. Whenever I tried to watch her in the past, she would tell me to get out of the kitchen. So, I never really know what she puts into her concoctions and how she makes them.

I was on the phone with a friend when she handed me the wineglass but I managed to take a photo somehow. I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity of sharing this with you. I squeezed the phone between my shoulder and my ear, reached for the camera bag, changed lenses and took a photo. That’s bringing the concept of multi-tasking to new heights hehehe.

I wish my girls will grow up loving the kitchen too, like your girls. Ang sarap naman ng feeling na finally they’re the ones serving you goodies. :) And so thoughtful too!
