Chip Tsao on Spratly Islands issue
UPDATE on April 1, 2009 @ 1.38 a.m. Yesterday’s column is dedicated to the commenters who who fancy themselves to be patriots. Sad that they will never understand what Mark Twain meant when he said that a patriot is “the person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about.”
I got this from Jim Ayson’s Twitter but I think the article deserves a more full blown discussion. A guy named Chip Tsao wrote his reaction to the Philippine policy on the Spratly Islands. Here’s a screenshot of a portion of his article called The war at home.
Before making any knee-jerk reaction, I tried to find more information about Chip Tsao. He is a book author, broadcast journalist, columnist and former BBC reporter and reputedly famous for his “wry sense of humor and sarcasm.” He His writings have been the subject of controversy before — see this and this. The Spratly article is not the first time he’s taken a swipe at Filipino women either — see this.
Now, I don’t like dignifying bad taste with indignation. Writings like his probably generate enough controversy to sell newspapers and books, it ain’t my style but I don’t have to do what so many others have done in similar cases (Malu Fernandez, Desperate Housewives and Henry Enfield). My interest in Chip Tsao, his style and his article is to point out that low class and tacky journalism is not peculiar to the Philippines. It’s everywhere.

Let’s just remind Chip that our maids are dispensable, our national territory ain’t. So who cares if he terminates her UP educated maid? Another one is always on the wings to take her place. Heck, there’s millions of them waiting on the wings.
I would just like to point out, the article clearly states “Louisa” is from the University of Manila and not the University of the Philippines in Manila. The University of Manila is located in the city of Sampaloc and was founded in 1913. One of their most notable alumni is former President of the Philippines Manuel Roxas. UM also has an extension school in Makati. UP Manila on the other hand is located in the city of Manila, along Taft Avenue.
And I doubt he can find another maid as well-educated and as hard-working as a Filipino one. What’s he gonna hire? An Indonesian maid? Well good luck to that.
Is that Chip Tsao’s photo? The guy’s a fag@#%. Just look at the way he sways his hips…
Spratlys is a legitimate issue. It can be discussed without insulting an entire nation. I’m one of the 96 million Filipinos and I don’t clean toilets for a living.
I gave someone who looks like Chip Tsao a mouthful because he didn’t have manners.
haller!? as if the chinese we’ren’t any different. they’re rank lower than filipinos outside china – being lowest paid dishwasher in cruiser vessels and they had to be hidden during inspections they can’t speak a single freaking english. when i was working in china, all they complain was that they’re not fairly compensated. well, fair enough because 5 chinese men’s work can be done better by a single filipino.
enough for now…
amen to that. Chinese workers have been the butt of jokes in america. In case Chip Tsao has forgotten, Chinese have migrated to USA and well… You get the story.
[deleted] you chip if you can read English!!!
Hahaha! Ang [deleted] nyong mga intsik, even my fil-chinese friends doesn’t like China. [deleted] ka CHIP TSAO!
[deleted] mo. Kapal ng mukha mong insultuhin mga Pilipino.
yeah..nature of servants..servants of God..well at least we’re the humblest race that have ever lived..
so you’re a respected human huh?..with what reason?because you’re a former reporter in BBC??..because you lived in hongkong?..hey..if you really are a great person..you’re not gonna write even a single insulting and degrading word to any race..if you’re anger is heating up because of spratly..then talk about spratly..and spratly alone..why do you have to say such things huh?..are you a perfect being huh?..is hongkong the most powerful nation??..you’re just a nonsense-whatever-talking living thing, you can’t bring us down..God Bless you mr. tsao..hope that bad karma won’t come near you..
cruel, racist [deleted]! youre the kind of people that makes this world hell to live, who do you think you are!
bo lang chao di CHIP TSAO
bo lang chao di CHIP TSAO! im a filchi here and you dont have the right of insulting our motherland you *ucker. COme hre in the Philippines, ILL EVEN PAY FOR YOUR FARE. YOU SCARECROW. I can take you on i break your glasses you [deleted]
patriotic??(really?)..
you’re talking like a kid..sup with that talking bout your maid??hahaha..*big laughs..with that i must agree..you are not patriotic as what you think you are..so don’t talk like you’re the greatest and the most excellent person on earth..
and by the way..you are definitely and completely NOT our master!..always remember that..filipinos are greater than what you think we are..ayt?..
this really is funny..someone’s considering himself as a master..that’s so childish..unbelievable..
My fellow citizen are more respectable than Chip Tsao. Maybe you (Tsao) are forgetting something, all of us are slaves. We do things for others in order to earn money, unless you are a magician to generate money without doing anything. If you’ll fire my fellow countrymen, then will you look for another maid? If you will, what is the nationality? Do you understand the difference between slaves and workers? My countrymen are working to generate income, and they are not doing it in compulsory, like what slaves do. Well intelligent(?) Tsao, do you remember the history of your country? You have been under the power of England, did they make your countrymen slaves? Being under a colonial country is like being a slave. Maybe you do understand how offending it is to be called like that, and maybe you do understand that my fellow countrymen whom you are calling slave, never wanted to work away from their family just to do things for you. You never knew Filipinos. You don’t even have a right to make such calling on my country. We are just fighting for our rights. Even though, we do not have the capability to fight in a big war, we still have the rights to fight for what we should have. Widen your understanding, and learn how to be sensitive on others’ feelings. This world is not just for you, and I don’t even believe in supremity. You are paying your maid because she is doing things for you, not as your slave.
Chip Tsao (cheap chow or junk food) might be under the influence of alcohol or drugs or he might just be naturally [deleted] when he wrote his article about the Philippines and the the Filipina domestic helpers in Hong Kong. Mr. Junkie (Tsao) is talking about 130, 000 household helps in HK and that is not the main source of the Philippine economy’s income. More than two million Filipino professionals are scattered around the world in nations a lot greater than HK where they are practitioners and experts in their chosen fields. There’s nothing wrong with being a maid coz it’s not a lowly profession, even the chinese before were doing the worst jobs by pushing carts shouting “bote-garapa” (getting used bottles) to make a living before. Now, they have upgraded themselves by kidnapping their fellow Chinese citizens in exchange of ransom. Tsao, should first do his researches very well before cocking his mouth. He must be proud that HK got Filipina maids in their country coz Filipinas are very intelligent people and they will saved Tsao from his insanity and ultimate stupidity!
Chinese is the plague of the earth. They are the worst human rights violators. They already claim a lot of lands around the world and their greed continues on. They manufacture the most cheap and unsafe products that have killed and endangered their own people and many others worldwide. tainted milk scandal, unsafe mah-lings, lead-laced unsafe toys, fire hazardous Christmas lights and other electrical supplies, etc. the list goes on. since the melamine scandal, i have never consumed or use any Chinese product.
Cheap Tsao should keep his mouth shut or i would ask Manny Pacquiao to shut his lights out. we may have lots of Filipina domestic workers scattered around the world. but they are educated, skilled and work with dignity.
Cheap Tsao, you and lots of others there are fortunate to have Filipina maids in our country. They help in your daily lives by taking care of your household chores so you can earn your living and work out your respective businesses and careers.
while some Chinese who come over to our country engage in illegal activities like drug trafficking and other criminal activities. how many shabu laboratories have the PDEA busted and they were ran by chinese who illegally enters our country? at the end of the day, who do we think are the scums of the earth?
don’t be scared! retard (tsip chauu)…. FILIPINO RULES!!!!
HEY ASS&*^% WRITER!
YOU RACIST!!
YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW TO RESPECT FILIPINO’S, IM ONE OF 98 MILLION FILIPINO’S WORLDWIDE! WE CAN CRUSH YOUR LIFE AND ENTIRE LIFE FOR THE RACIST REMARKS! THIS DOESN’T SHOW EDUCATED WRITER NOR A LITERATE FREAK*N CHINESE. GO TO MY COUNTRY PHILIPPINES AND I’LL SHOW U HOW CHINESE S*CKS!! SPRATLYS IS A REAL PART OF PHILIPPINE ACHIPELAGO.
F*CK CHIP TSAO!!
You sealed it with the last statement. Couldn’t have said it better.
I get his sarcasm. His pieces appear clever for poking a lurid vulgar brand of wit at controversial topics, but end up falling flat as one reads along. His sense of inferiority is heightened by the bare fact that his domestic assistant may be more educated, but has chosen clean his windows for cash than fling her savvy take on geopolitics with her ill-bred employer. This is not the first time some HK Chinese expressed indignation that their amas are better educated, and stoically bearing their crap with the hopes of getting away from their masters soon, returning home, and building better lives. Truly, men fear those whose shadows loom larger that theirs. I take so much glee in that thought!!!
is that a… chip on his shoulder?
People, YOU CAN CRITICIZE CHIP CHAO AND DISAGREE WITH HIS WORDS but calling him names and hurling personal insults at him reflect badly on Filipinos, not on him.
Ms.Connie Veneracion! you have to be familiar to whom you dealing with, are you saying that we filipinos are going to just be okay of what Mr.Chip Tsao said in the magazine? You be insane, and where is your patriotism?
And to you Mr.Chip “cheap” Tsao who do you think you are? are you better than filipinos? look at your self you such an old lanky man,and to think that you are an Asian but you are secluding your self to the rest of the asian countries most especially the filipinos, and why did not you mother tell you that being a nanny or just by merely being a mother to a son is the most wonderful job in the earth? then why you persecuting your filipina maid? they are human as you they take care of your house, clean your toilet and even cook a good food for you, the Philippinies is just only claiming the spratlys island like other countries does, so would you mind do your own job and don’t be a racist!Just mind your chinese culture that kills some tibetans, why not write in your column about those tainted milks that cause a lot of trouble in your economy?or you write some about secret issues in your country im sure they’re going to get you in a second and will put you behind bars! lastly, filipinos are honest dealing with their fellowmen and dont include us to your cheap article in magazine, stupid chinese!
Wow, one more proof of what illogical anger breeds.
illogical Breed? lol look whose talking?i can say you are just coward and pretending to be on our side but you are defending this chip”cheap”tsao, anyways the topic is not within but of course to that old man but if you insist to defend this man then you are absolutely you are on the side of this racist old man.
by the way i hope the philippine goverment will do something to this guy either it was just a provoke or satire writings its still degrading our dear land and culture, most especially it’s really hard to take those words he said into his column, that man cross a border,he should be punish. He only not affected pubclication and journalism into his country but affected the most entire of his race.
Tsk tsk tsk I really don’t want to play with you but you insist. It’s “illogical anger”, boy, not illogical Breed. And it’s “anyway” not anyways.
“the topic is not within but of course to that old man”
Huh? LOL
If your reasoning (lack of it, actually) is what defines not being a coward, then I’d really rather be a coward HAHAHAHAHHA
Hey Ms. Connie, are you defending that CHEAP GUY? Where is your sense of patriotism? You don’t want these people to call him names and hurl personal insults on him when the guy you are defending hurled disgusting, derogatory, and vile remark on our beloved country. You’re so pathetic! As Akbayan Party-list Rep Risa Hontiveros said: “As for Chip Tsao, he should find another profession. He should leave the Spratlys issue to the diplomats and writing to real writers because clearly he has neither competence nor talent in foreign affairs and in writing.”
Defending him? If you have to ask that, then, Filipinos aren’t worth defending. I repeat: YOU CAN CRITICIZE CHIP CHAO AND DISAGREE WITH HIS WORDS but calling him names and hurling personal insults at him reflect badly on Filipinos, not on him. If that needs elaboration, stooping down to his level makes you no better than he is so don’t be so self-righteous. Trouble with your thinking is that UNLESS I USE GUTTER language, I’m defending the guy. Now, that is pathetic. Sheesh.
And patriotism has nothing to do with geography.
I completely agree with your statement. I was just echoing your statements in my own blog entry about this issue, and fighting racism with racism is hardly the correct approach to this type of article. If anything, it’s a horrible reflection on our populace to have Filipino commenters screaming racial slurs and death threats.
There were one or two comments who had the right approach– intellectually debating the actual points of the article rather than resorting to gutter talk and petty name-calling– but they were definitely in the minority.
reading the article this mr. tsao wrote, i have to admit, made me feel hot blood rush to my head. he did insinuate that the chinese are superior to us filipinos, and this was because of his carefully researched statistics on the number of filipino workers in HK. however, that number is relatively small compared to the number of pinoy workers and professionals in other countries, and so far, i have NOT heard the Americans or Europeans claim that they are our masters. it was deeply insulting, what this mr. tsao did. however, i must agree with you on not stooping to his level. i understand that he is a writer feeding on the scandal his articles make, and that is not the mark of a journalist, but an immature, impetuous person who should know better.
as for us filipinos, let’s be proud of our work, whatever it is. i find it sad that pinoys lucky enough not to have to work abroad actually have the gall to put down those who do have to clean other people’s toilets (a cliche).
We’re not STOOPING DOWN at his level. We’re KICKING HIM OUT off where he is leveled!
After what Chip Tsao said to the Filipinos and the way he treated and threatened his house helper Luisa, do you think he’ll still be looking and reflecting on how good the Filipinos are?
It is the Chinese General Sun-Tzu in his Art of War book who said, “if you want to fight, you must learn how to fight in your opponent’s terrain.” Believe this, not stooping down to his level doesn’t make you any nobler, the truth is it will still leave you with a lot of pain inside your heart bcoz you did not make a good fight!
After all, what were written here are mere doses of his own medicine.
I should not speak for Connie, as she has already stated her point so clearly in her reply. All of our rage and anger at Chip’s statements are better spent if we address those same words we have typed on this post (some of them suspiciously in haste) to Chip. I believe Connie intended to stimulate discussion not just on the issue of Spratly claims, but also how others perceive Filipinos. Mahirap talagang pakinggan minsan na maraming Pinoy na nagpapaalila sa ibang bayan. Count me among them, although fortunate not to toil as hard as the others. It’s easy to pick on people seemingly beneath us, as Chip was doing, but let us prove him wrong and put that schoolyard bully in place. Calling him names such a faggot and yet not being brave enough to spell it out (e.g.,fag@#%, by gomez), continues to affirm the belief of Chip and his ilk that they could behave and speak the way they do. Let’s face it, we come from a nation of fucked up politicians, a desperate majority, and a backdrop of tragic circumstances. If we are true patriots as some of us feel and claim to be, isn’t it about time we start thinking about how we could change Philippine society? And actually banding to do something about our fantastic ideas of change? It would be great to stand up and move along, instead of rolling in the muck and continuing to complain how messy we have become. Just my thoughts… on a Sunday morning, in my part of the planet.
N.B. Ms. Connie, you have a knack for shaking quiet weekend posts,eh?
well, he mentioned about patriotism…i’ll be glad to defend my beloved homeland.
mabuhay!
The government should rescue the Filipina maid who serves this man who has no respect for others and treats his maid like a piece of trash while he himself stinks more with the kind of attitude he has. Why does she work 16 hours a day? That is inhuman! what does he think of himself, GOD?
I pity her….so much so the writer…
Master? hahaha who is the master you??? your writings are as pathetic as your wrinkly, crocodile-like face of yours.
You know what I challenge you to visit every country in the whole world to see what chinese people like you do for a living!!! I dare you !!! double and triple dare you!!! [deleted] Chuk Chuck(a)Cheap Tsao
maybe it’s time for his maid to serve cheap tsao, cheap chao, whatever….serve him his favorite noodles or congee laced with grounded fluorescent bulb, that for sure could straighten him out nicely and forever..inside a coffin.
Hi to all readers! I was following all this discussions about Chip Tsao and his very racist/stupid article…I am worried about the safety of Louisa, clearly this man is insane, insecure and definitely has a very low sense of morality. He calls himself a patriotic chinese? i think the right word would be a coward chinese, because only a coward picks a fight on people who they know can’t fight them back.
and if he wants to have a session of trash talk..
then he should go to my place!
My take on Chip Tsao’s article is not to take it at all. Responding garbage with another garbage will only confirm his convictions. It’s interesting how some people lose their judgment by overreacting to his articles with a false sense of pride that makes them even lower than he is.
chip tsao…you are illiterate, uncivilized and absurd
Your comment would have sounded more credible had you addressed the article as uncivilized and absurd instead of calling the guy illiterate — which he obviously isn’t.
One of my readers, Kutz (an Pinay Arizona teacher) took a completely different route with her analysis that I would like to share to you all. Don’t count on me, I’d be barbaric too hahaha! I have a dozen names and I’d castrate that bloody a_hole! hahaha! Here’s what my reader said:
the guy’s a has-been obviously, so he needs something to spark his sorry career. Chip Tsao is [deleted]. he fails miserably in writing. fcuk, i wrote articles better than he ever could. this guy’s definitely an [deleted]. look at how he presents his argument. totally stupid. his attacks are baseless. his article is nothing. we Filipinos should fret not about this issue. isa lang syang [deleted].
f*** off tsao!
Surely, Chip Tsao will applaud himself if he reads the comments here. He writes to elicit sensation, anger and protests. Calling his shots will only make him happier. Giving him the cold shoulder will make him nervous because it means his job is at risk.
Mr. Chip Tsao, Thank you for being an eye opener.
Hey CHEAP TSAO, YOU THINK YOU ARE GOOD IN GEOGRAPHY LESSON REGARDING SPRATLY ISSUE,BUT LET ME GIVE YOU SOME LESSON IN HISTORY. Lesson # 1: IF ITS NOT FOR THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT WHO TOOK CONTROL OF YOUR SMALL ISLAND (and by the way, once had been your master, AND YOU WERE ONCE A SLAVE), YOU WILL STILL BE LIKE YOUR GREAT ANCESTORS AND SOME RELATIVES IN MAINLAND CHINA WHO COULD NOT SPEAK AND WRITE ENGLISH. Lesson # 2: WHY ARE THERE MILLIONS OF CHINESE WHO LEAVE CHINA AND NO LONGER WANTED TO BE CALLED CHINESE BUT AS A CITIZEN OF THEIR HOST COUNTRY? THAT’S A SILENT ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF HOPELESSNESS AND HELPLESSNESS. Lesson # 3: WHO IS THE PRODUCER OF MOST INFERIOR PRODUCTS IN THE WORLD? WHO STARTED AND EXPORTED SARS IN THE WORLD (but was never welcomed in the Philippines)? WHO ADDED A MELAMINE IN MILK PRODUCTS THAT CAUSES DEATH TO SEVERAL INFANTS? WHO INVENTED AND ARTIFICAL EGG THAT WAS SOLD VERY CHEAP (TSAO) IN THE MARKET? WHO ARE BUYING DEAD CHICKENS AND MEATS TO BE SOLD IN THEIR LOCAL MARKETS? AND WHO ARE THE KIND OF PEOPLE IN THIS EARTH THAT HAS NO ETIQUETTE BY JUST SPITTING AROUND AT JUST ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME? Lesson # 4: HEY (VERY)CHEAP, DO YOU HAVE A BRAIN TO REALIZE THAT IN THE PHILIPPINES YOU HAVE TO BE A HOLDER OF DEGREE IN INTERNATIONAL POLITICS TO BE QUALIFIED AS A HELPER? I WONDER IF YOU HAVE SUCH A HIGH STANDARD?
LASTLY, THE RUSSIAN AND THE JAPANESE DID SOMETHING IN FRONT OF YOUR VERY EYES AND YOU JUST SHRUG OFF YOUR SHOULDER AND EVEN FIND WAYS TO PRAISE THEM. BUT A MERE “blatant threat” FROM THE PHILIPPINE CONGRESS ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH TO “KNOCK YOUR BALLS” AND SHOWED HOW BAD MOUTHED YOU ARE AND SNAKED PITTED IS YOUR MIND. YOU JUST SHOWED TO THE INTELLIGENT COMMUNITY THAT YOU ARE BOTH COWARD AND A BULLY! PRESS PEOPLE SHOULD CONDEMN YOUR KIND OF JOURNALIST! WHAT A PITY YOU ARE. IF YOU REALLY ARE BRAVE ENOUGH, WHY NOT EXPOSE YOUR OWN COUNTRY’S PROBLEMS. SHAME ON YOU!
Problems with the caps lock in your keyboard?
bwahaha
Sort of i think haha. lupet! ang galing
capitalized words/sentences express anger…
No, all caps in chat, public fora and comment threads => shouting.
Chip’s facebook account: Tao Kit
worth reading: http://jessicarulestheuniverse.com/the-zafra-theory-of-world-domination/ (at least i believe)
mister tsao thinks otherwise, hahaha
=)Good article. LOL
Although I don’t believe we are defenseless as what the author suggests. If we are fighting on our own soil, invaders WILL have a haaaard time… =)
I hate my Chinese blood.
Proud to be Filipino.
Now, A Chinese Blooded man got affected
Mr. Chip think first the there are Chinese Men over here too
Wow, you really opened a can of worms with this one!
And I didn’t even use words that provoke. Imagine if I wrote an angry blog entry.
if you did, closed na ang comments section for this entry. hahaha
Malamang hahahaha
The truth hurts!
Hello there Chip, tell you what, the Chinese are really good at one thing, hard and underaged labor. Oh and by the way, you chinese people are like a disease, you’re everywhere! That’s why a lot of viruses originated from your homeland. Anyone remember SARS? Yup, that deadly virus sweeping over South Asia, it’s Chinese. And by the way, if it was’nt for the Britsh, Hong Kong will just be a small island for your drug dealers. Ever wondered why there is still Hong Kong Dollars? Anyone remember SARS? Yup, that deadly virus sweeping over South Asia, it’s Chinese. Education in your country is like computer programming, you just try to make your people follow your dumb culture and ideologies. Dude, I can take you out on debates or just simple knowledge tests and I’m only 22 years old. Please, do not be so ignorant and arrogant as to write such demeaning articles. If you are the pride of Hong Kong then I guess they dont have much to be proud about. Peace!
One word reaction to what Mr. Chip Tsao wrote: unfair.
One word reaction to what the others have written regarding the Tsao: noise.
After reading your post, I’m now thinking that this Chip Tsao is nothing more than a cheap Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh ripoff.
This man is clearly [deleted]!
Ms. Chao, haven’t you forgotten that you as a columnist / mediaman (mediawoman) is also a servant?
In order to have a living, we all provide service to other people. In your case, you are just lucky comparing to your Filipina domestic helper.
Here in the Philippines, there were Chinese people that were even worse than your domestic helper.
With regards to who owns the Spratly’s, there are much “brained” and authorized persons to say who own these islets than you.
I am about to believe that Chinese invented the Eastern civilizations to include corruption, piracy, slavery, sloth, etc.
Don’t you know that Filipinos too have Chinese blood? Our national hero is a Chinese! Don’t you get that!
I have nothing against you of saying Philippines is a nation of servants. Yes we are. We were servants of God and the people we live with.
I can even serve you better than my dog, that if you would want to come to my place. Promise!
Hindi kaya satire yung sinulat nya?
Possible. But then that would make most of all his writings a satire. When I was reading up on him, I read some of his older columns, and that’s really how he writes.
SAtire… might be. But he got it wrong this time.
Do you think he writes that way to sell? =)
That’s what I think, yes. Controversy sells. And media everywhere like to blur the lines between ballsy writing and crappy writing.
i think Mr. chip Tsao is catching an attention from us. He is a fame-greed … A racist must be put to his final destination…
His ideas are an eye opener for us and I think China is big enough and should stop claiming territories. If it does, do it in a diplomatic way and not in a uncivilized war of words between both sides
Mr. Chip Tsao’s articles should not be taken so seriously but take it educationaly. the guy is a well known sarcastic writer.
If his subject is about the Spratleys Island dispute, why insult the people defending their claim in general? If I caught one or even a hundred Chinese people smuggling illegal drugs to the Philippines, do I have the right to say that all chinese are illegal drug smugglers? If the police caught chinese businessmen cheating Filipino businessmen, do I have the right to say that all chinese businessmen are cheaters? Chip Tsao, you are supposed to be a journalist. You should have studied Jounalism Ethics. Practice it. And the only way to cover up your mistake in insulting the Filipino people is to apologize. I rest my case…
Bravo! Bravo!
Lupet! hehe Just recently, Chinese Drug Lords got busted here in the Philippines haha
What are you gonna do with the spratly’s island? Drug-processing island?
wahahaha simple line. Humor
)
The nerve of this ching chong! what this [deleted] did was beyond insult. As if Chinese deserve a single respect. FYI Tsao, need i remind you of some noble facts about China:
1. China products sucks, poor quality, wrong grammar/spelling on the labels and directions, in short, patethic.
2. Odinary Chinese (about 99,999,999 of them) took ages to learn how to speak English while the Philippines is the 3rd English-speaking country. The nerve of this “Cheap Tsao” to insult us in full-blast.
3. Most of the Chinese people here in the Philippines are either druglords or human traffic violators. Chinese people imports and manfactures mets here in our country, Chinese simply encroaching the Philippines for the longest time. But normally, we Filipinos don’t rub this in. its just that [deleted] Tsao pushed the button.
4. Spratly’s Islands are pedominantly within the domain of the Philippines maybe, there no more room for 1 Billion Chinesemen that is why they must seek for new lands to pester.
4. And of course, Chinesemen are neddle-d1cks! and their porn actresses seemed posessed by a nymphomaniac cat during THE scene. hehe
This harping on the ability to speak English so reeks of colonial mentality. You got a lot of wrongly spelled words in your comments too.
Re drug lords or human traffic violators. When you say “most”, I suppose you have documented statistics to back up that claim?
The porn reference is just so out of topic and low. If you think your comment gives the impression that you’re better than Chip Tsao, you’re in for a rude awakening.
he’s trying to generate a media hype with what he wrote since bad publicity IS still publicity…
in brief: a loser.
The world’s gone mad!..Well, Ting Tong or Chip whatever is a genuine [deleted] that has the luxury of expressing his thoughts through writing..Another stab that left Filipinos in quandary on how to retaliate..Especially the poor dear ol government whose facing a blank wall on how to deal with this nonsense.
This just baffles me cause when the BBC sketch was aired in the UK, the shallow minded governemnt immediately launched a complain despite it said nothing deliberately about Pinoys being servants..But this however has made the government think of what to do next cause its only a columnist blabbing about a ‘nation of servants’..hmmmmmmm..Dont forget that an article will not be published unless approved by the Editor/Media Outfit..
Anyway, I just hope they’ll deal and remedy the racist remarks like they do here in Europe.
And I hope Ting Tong would also realize the hurdle his countrymen are undergoing abroad just to get along..or never! lol!
I pity your soul Mr. Chip Tsao. Do you ever realize what you did is drag your self down? Your choice of words only reflect the kind of person you are!
These guy is pretending to be different in the society. Look at yourself….
[deleted]! Look at yourself first..You don’t have the right to say that to Filipino people… Are you doing this for you to be famous?? Go to hell..
please remind this [deleted] with eyes that look that it was just slit to create an opening that most Chinese in the Philppines in the earlier period were mere lowly peddlers but they were treated humanely.
the philippines has a legitimate claim on the spratlys and his logic about his servant is non-sequitur. this [deleted] needs to be reminded that china had violated worldwide laws on patent by producing inferior products that imitate original ones to the detriment of the market. he should be ashamed that his countrymen are doing this. and i don’t think that majority of his people agree with his view.
as a parting word, this [deleted] should be hanged by guillotine as he is a disgrace to the compassionate and civilized world.
What could you expect from a person who believes in creation more than the creator (pagan). We Filipinos have great respect for others because we believe and fear God (in spirit and in truth).
We all know that it is bad or a sin to insult and discriminate others. Let us just end this exchange of hatred and pray for his soul, perhaps he may also find the truth and he may be saved.
A good satirist aims and fires at a spot-on target, and there should be no confusion on who’s the target/s, whatever the education of the reader. Tsai’s apparent target has been to ridicule his country’s hypocritical muscle flexing and there he succeeded (rating: 9.5 out of 10).
But he should pay for the collateral damage he incurred for practicing his “craft” — in this instance, domestic helpers, who only happened to be Filipinos. And whoa, using that phrase – “a nation of servants” (was that really necessary? using a sweeping generalization even in the spirit of sarcasm is an indicator of a bird-brain or maybe he was absent when journalism ethics was taught). If he was trying to be “literati” suave ala James Bond, then what a lousy agent he was in this outing – 007 doesn’t shoot at non-combatants, even by mistake.
Maybe the funny haircut and the cheap-looking jacket of this Tsai guy smiling for the camera should give us an indication of his possible innards — the innards of a worm – one kind who cares only about writing in “style” and becoming a “best-selling” author by any means.
No amount of literary know-how could cover up for a case of boorish behavior, though, I may be willing to concede that it may not have been his intention to malign DHs — still, where does boorish behavior originate?. He did it, just because he could — that is, indiscriminately pick on a particular group of people who can’t defend themselves at face value.
Use his maid Luisa as cannon fodder, instead of socking it to particular Beijing pols, or if the case of the Philippines, the lords over Pasig in Manila who have the power over foreign policy. Cowardly and lazy.
Hi Connie,
thanks for bringing your sense of reason into the comment lines. while the article definitely riles my senses, not only the apparent lack of journalistic ethics and the common conscientiousness that should be exercised in this global community, but the flagrant fouls and off-tangent connections that only fly towards racism as well, I think that your efforts are commendable.
keep it up!
Thank you. The funny thing is how most commenters think I should allow abuse — including those directed at me. LOL I just deleted two comments that say I should remove my photo from the thread because I’m just pretending to be a Filipino. Imagine that.
I think you had this coming Ms. Veneracion. Posting an article like this begs to be flooded by negative reactions when read.
Anyway, comments aside, I’m happy that people reacted this way. I’m happy that they are, in a sense proud and are ready to protect(?) our country from oppression.
Cheers!
Negative comments — even negative feelings — need not be uncivilized.
??? Ms. Connie.. i can’t understand you anymore..
This is a threaded comment, Steff. You hit the reply link in my comment to Pinoyboytoy’s comments, i.e., commenters are calling me names because I truncate highly abusive words in some comments.
To cheap chao, dont u dare to visit the philippines, or else…
Chip Tsao, pls dont comment on those issues. The measure you judged will be the same measure that will be used upon you.
Please, Think before you act, every professional people do that. Well, unless you are not, are you?
hey chip! can you look at the mirror when you’re coming out of your home…
it’s very true that some of our people do really have that kind of decent job unlike your race that keeps on copying the works of other people!
now, can you see who can come out of the open?!
you pirated people…
Are you an educated man Chip Tsao? You know if you want to be respected by the people around you, then respect us also. You did not gain respect, you ask for it and you are so CHEAP…… you don’t follow the ethics as a writer or journalist….
Someone told you that you must come here in the Philippines and let’s see who will win…
We are proud to be a Filipino, we are not servants but WE ARE VERY HELPFUL, WE HAVE MANY TRAITS THAT YOU CAN’T COMPARE TO ANYTHING….
you’re an employeer who doesn’t respect the one who serves you… Shame on yourself……..
Everyone is criticizing you, don’t tell us its a satire, we are not idiots
You know what . What’s the point of publishing your article if you are against Filipinos just because of the Spratly Islands . Well, if you really want that island just buy it [deleted] . This saturday we would like to go to your country to see the magnificent place like Hongkong but my mind changes due to the ironic keen minded people like you who thinks they are better person just because a Filipina DH is working under your emloyment who is expecting your wages . Well, this really pisses me of [deleted]. I pity those Hong Kong Chinese people for having a [deleted] CHIP TSAO on having you as their fellown Chinese . Well, I had enough of this and Iive got 3 words for yah Mr. Tsao . [deleted]
Is that Cheap Chow?
You know we Filipinos are very respectable than others. We are educated even if others are working as an OFW, we earn money for our family and not for what we want, not for our wealth. You destroy yourself on everyone. Do you think all will believe you for what you say for what you write? huh……. you know you’re family even know that it is wrong for you to write about us Filipinos that we are slave…..You think you are powerful?… Sorry you are not.
Let it be the decision of God
all i can say GOD bless you and your family..just remember no man is an island..its just happend that MAN is you chip tsao and we filipino’s is your island..just learn to appreciate people especially if they done something important to you..YOUR A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT IN CHINESE CULTURE AND ATTITUDE.JUST WRITE SOMETHING SIGNIFICANCE.
You call that a satire? How dare you! Only barbarians and people with no culture like you can say that. We are a people with principle and intelligence not just like you. Remember that your maid Luisa is the one preparing your food and cleaning your bath. You should be grateful of her services and only a Filipina can do that.Your words reflect much of your personality and attitude. Bear in mind that before you criticize others you should examine yourself first. You are so CHEAP Chip Tsao!!!!!!
As far as I know labor in China 5times cheaper compared with The Philippines. If we are Nation of Servants…then China is what???
Such a mess.. no words to say. disappointed.
WANTED: chip tsao!!! you are so cheap! very unprofessional! go to school and study good moral values!
Unfortunately, you just found another patriots.. not just one but a country of it
He just made it personal with one of our kababayans. Don’t you think? He should have thought of his fellow China men here in the Philippines. They might be affected too of his being that kind of Patriot. Sad
Actually, some people are arguing that this article was actually made to ridicule the Chinese people (as implied by the line that says he is “a patriotic Chinese man” accompanied by racist insults, yadda yadda). Fact is, he even wrote another article that shows his ridicule for Chinese fake products like milk with melamine and et cetera.
The article is a satire, a fiction. It’s a comedy that shows a guy – a patriotic Chinese fellow – treating his maid rudely just because of an issue between their race. It shows how too much ethnocentrism leads to racism. Again, that’s what people are saying.
Personally, I think Tsao overdid it. And no matter how you put it, the stereotypes he made – may it be against us Filipinos or may it be against the Chinese people – it would be politically incorrect.
Anyway, to my fellow Filipinos who think Tsao’s politically incorrect humor gives them a license to insult the Chinese, put an end to the hate wave. You can’t fight bigotry with bigotry. You know that the stereotypes are not general facts. Two lies don’t cancel each other out.
Rhyan, I agree that you can’t fight bigotry with bigotry. But logical reasoning is fast getting lost on this thread. Just see to what level some commenters have stooped.
Shame on you! you DON’T HAVE ANY RIGHT to call my country as a country of servants. It won’t be nice and you would not feel better if we call your country the same as what you did to us.
Public Apology is not enough!
Even if you do that, the damage has been done
Well, Mr. Chip Tsao, dont consider yourself as a writer, because if youre really a writer you should first maker some research about your topic, well may I remind you Chip Tsao that Filipino’s working in Hong Kong is one of the main reason why Hong Kong is still surviving in economic crisis that is being felt all over the world, aside from that the my God Chip have u ever been study the Phil constitution first before writing down something about the Spratly Island, blah blah
FOR SURE FILIPINO’S ALL OVER THE WORLD WILL BE HAPPY ENOUGH IF YOU WILL BE PUT ON JAIL FOR QUITE SOMETIME!!!!!!!!
Whoah. Chip Tsao. That reminds me, his name ‘Chip’ rhymes with the word ‘cheap’. Should I say this article refelcts his cheap style of writing? Man, this gives a head ache! I won’t get myself to any kind of hostility here seeing the riot has gotten worse. And I guess people here wrangle for freedom of speech (well, who doesn’t demand for freedom of speech anyways?). I’m still a student and I study Mandarin. But upon seeing Mr. Tsao’s article, it gives me the idea that he denigrates his given freedom of speech, language and most likely, his country. I respect China and its subordinates, but I can’t help to think that every citizen of a nation builds up the nation’s very own character and disposition. If this is how Tsao uses his freedom of speech, then, I might as well think twice about my plans of giving high credits to the Mandarin language, speaking of its recent acclaimed glory in the world record with the most number of speakers (everbody knows it is predominantly because of their humongous population). The last time I came to China, Chinese people who knew about my incompetence towards their language buzzed around like: ‘Ta ting pu tong..Ta ting pu tong..’ with those bizarre and malicious looks on their faces. GEEZ! That was some memory! Afterwards I struggled hard to keep up with the line and never be affronted with those spike-eyed people (imagine Datu Puti models on TV, hehe). And now, I think I was bamboozled. Heck, the word! Though I hate to admit it, I was bamBOOzled and now, I shall give them the scary face back! Haha. But I guess I should not refer to THEM because it is only the infamous CHEAP Mr. Chip Tsao who’s involve with this. Justice says 1 is for 1, but I guess in Mr. Tsao’s case now, it is going to be more than that – it is going to be lopsided (more of the Tide Commercial, haha). Poor guy. But anger does a lot of things to us, doesn’t it? And especially now that we’re gravely offended…
To Mr Chip Tsao, you are nothing but what your name suggests, a “cheap” one!
Tsip Chao don’t know how to write very well a satirical article. His CHEAP CHAORATICAL article did not catch the sense of humor of filipinos… He should learn first from our stand up comedians and the like.
Well, this is clearly one racial discrimination. Who do you think he is trying to be?
If he only bothers to read the history of China Town in Binondo. Thousands of Chinese were also a slave under the Spanish regime.
I bet that Chip Tsao can’t do what his professional maid do just to earn a living.
Mr. Tsao, can’t you put yourself on the other’s shoes?
Learn to be sensitive.
china: land of SUBSTANDARD and POISONOUS MERCHANDISE..
ummm…
i just wanna say that ..yeah
the whole thing is very insulting and almost getting into my nerves..
but having your violent comments on him is not that good either..why?
*because you’re just showing that we are less educated..how? by your vulgar choice of words isn’t it?
you’ll just worsen up things..why don’t talk about the real ordeal
and here is my comment with that article…
spratly’s island is a philippine property..it is ours. and i think it we have the rights to claim the island…you say that it must be yours,.,.,you claim the property of others even if don’t deserve such?
you may say that we are servants but don’t you even thought about many chinese people also work for a living in the philippines? if you Mr.Chao demands that land of “servants” thing to us..well then what do you call to the hundred of thousands chinese working here in and for my country..am I also going to call them my slaves?
you still point out on us sush undeserving title even if thousand of chinese drug lords dig in unpleasant things in my country..i don’t think naming us as servants is not worth it Mr.Chao…..I’ve got a question to you “mister”
first of all..
i’m a student and i’ve studied Highschool journalism and we’ve tackled journalistic ethics and you are “fishing out of water” I mean you’re growing out of it.
here’s my question
have you even think about why do you need to write something that’ll be giving you pain in the “neck”?.ask yourself wy do you need to write witty but dull in feelings article.. you’d better be apologizing to everyone..especially Filipinos and anyway leave Louisa outta the case,, in fact she’s the victim! you are so naive..
oohhh i’ve got a typo over there “i don’t think naming us as servants is {not}<-{delete} worth it “
Hey i have a bright idea! Why don’t we bring Cheap Chip here in the Phils so the ABU sayyaf can kidnap him. We’ll exchange him for the freedom of the captured ICRC volunteers. LOL! why don’t they behead him instead.
how there you to say that to the Filipino peoples…!!! did you know what is the true meaning of servant…. servant is where the people is working for their family not for their boss…IF YOU THINK WE ARE SERVANT OK…WE will accept it because we… Filipino people is down to earth STUPID!
May be you did not study your journalist ethics before you right your article’s! a poor chip tsao need an attention of the public but next time why don’t you study firts your article before to publish so that you will not hurt other people’s.
Mangopya ka man siguraduhin mong
Mas mahusay sa kinopyahan at matinong matino
Kahit ilong mo ay baliko kahit na panget sarat at pango
Basta’t pantay-pantay walang kulay walang away awitin nating sabay-sabay
CHORUS 1
[Repeat CHORUS 1]
Aking sina-saisip at puso’t damdamin at may paniwala sa sariling atin
Gawa na pinoy maipag mamalaki isigaw sa mundo at ipagsabi
CHORUS 2
Mayro’ng isang aso, daig pa ang ulol
Siya’y ngumingiyaw, hindi tumatahol
Katulad ng iba, painglis-inglis pa
Na kung pakikinggan, mali-mali naman
Wag na lang
AD LIB
[Repeat CHORUS 2 except last line]
Wag na, oy oy
Oy, ika’y Pinoy
Oy, oy, ika’y Pinoy

To Mr. Tsao,
Your such a big loser! I’m not consider you as a writer.. Any EDUCATED person should have a well balance, open minded thinking before they do something..
This yellow boy told the Filipinos not to flex their muscles on their Master (China)… Let me say to Chinese here in the Philippines to get off from my motherland… These yellow fellas are plaguing Philippines even before history!!!
How is that?
china: land of contaminated milk products
Chip Tsao realizes that publishing his article would spur some kind of anger from his readers of choice.
I’ve seen writers like him. If many people find it fun to read violent reactions, then I guess Old Chip is probably laughing his buttocks off to Timbuktu, with the lashings we’re giving him.
Mr. Tsao writes his articles in order to earn a living.
I would like to say that Louisa has a better and dignified occupation than her so-called “ama”.
In conclusion, Chip Tsao is no more than another crack pot journalist seeking attention, sharing his ideas and seeing where it would get him.
I am a Filipino myself but I would have to say that the solution for an attention seeking writer is to simply ignore him. *IGNORING HIM STARTING… NOW*
The Philippine government is not arguing with HIM whether or not we should take claim of the Spartly Islands (Which is supposedly the point of argument in his article), now is it?
Just prove to him that we certainly are not on his level of thinking and he does not even come close.
Well that’s all that I can share. *Bow*
And on that note, I am closing this comment thread.
