Speedy comes from a family of artists. Two of his brothers have a fine arts degree; another is an architect. Speedy isn’t bad with drawing and painting either. So, when both our girls showed artistic inclinations early on, I had no doubts where the genes came from.
There’s this sketch done in pencil that had been on a closet door for months. The paper has withstood heat and moisture and is starting to discolor. I always thought it was a funny cartoon.
Until I decided to take photos and zoomed in on the name on the shirt of the girl in the drawing.
Dear Sam, now you just lost your chance to get a DSLR camera for Christmas.

According to Alex, Sam put up the drawing after we had a fight. I can’t remember anymore when the last time was that we had a fight. According to Sam, that drawing has been there for THREE YEARS!!! Dammit, and I never noticed that it has my name???

Your reaction proved once again that the statement “we find the joke funny until it’s on us” is correct. In fairness to Sam, I think na capture niya facial features mo. I envy those who have artistic qualities kasi nung isinabog ito ng Diyos, I’m pretty sure tulog ako na nakasarado lahat ng bintana at pinto ng bahay namin kaya kahit kaunti walang nakuha.

There used to be three drawings taped on the closet door. One was done by Alex — a caricature of Sam as a witch, I think. Another was by Sam — a sketch of Alex with the label “pangs” for pangit. Non-stop asaran, grabe.
And when Sam takes portraits, she likes capturing the least flattering angles.

Jane, you know, sa dami ng naka-tape na drawings nila around the house. Kunsintidora kasi ako sa ganyan kasi I’d rather have their sketches on the walls than paintings by strangers, kahit mamahalin pa. Syempre, iba yung gawa ng anak. Pero pucha, di ko alam ako yung “model”, ano?

i have perpetual hives. allergic ako sa shrimp and dried fishes. my first aid to that is to take a warm bath and stay underneath the sheets until it goes away. pag di na talaga kaya, i take the antihistamine. sobrang kati yan and i think it spreads pag kinakamot so please tell sam not to scratch it. also, it normally appears in this kind of temperature (yung malamig) so it’s better for her not to go out at night muna or not to go out of the house at all until she’s sure na it’s totally gone na.
caution lang. the actual swelling is inside the body. yung elevated patches on the surface of our skin is just the outside reaction. different bodies react differently to it and it can be fatal. yung iba, hours lang, nachochoke na sila. so at the very first sign of wheezing, please bring your daughter to the doctor.

My sister and I engraved “BAD DAD” in beautiful lettering and fancy borders at the corner of an old closet when he refused to buy us that cool PlayDough toy we wanted. I was around 10 years old. He only noticed it when he moved the wardrobe 8 years later!

I’m surprised to read that these things are more than skin deep ha. They went to a football game and got it there. I dunno what was there on the field…
