Areas of intelligence, verbal abuse and breastfeeding

by Connie Veneracion on February 6, 2006

I’m browsing mommy webrings trying to decide if I should join any. For reasons I’d rather not get into lest I be accused of being too snooty, I decided not to join any, at least for now. However, through some of these webrings, I found a couple of gems that mommies (and daddies) ought to give some serious thought to.

1) There are eight ways to become smart. There are eight areas of intelligence and each has a different method for learning. I really pored over this one. You know, forget the outmoded notion that intelligence only means academic intelligence.

2) Verbal abuse can leave permanent scars.

Hurtful language is like a plague that gets passed down from generation to generation. It is so much a part of the fabric of life that most of us don’t even notice it.

3) For Filipino moms who are so used to just opening their blouses and breastfeeding their babies in public, beware. Breastfeeding in public is considered a crime in some places in the U.S.. Gee, the way some women dress, practically showing everything and doing something as biologically natural as breastfeeding is a crime? Urgh! Such irony.
