Araneta Center

We were at the Gateway Mall in Cubao, Quezon City last night for dinner and some shopping. Cubao is now a mixture of the old and the new. Gateway Mall is like most modern malls. Surrounding it are the old Cubao establishments–Farmer’s, Ali Mall, and the hodgepodge of restaurants and shops. The most innovative improvement–the lights. The trees lining the streets are now bright with lights. Quite a sight, really. I hope all those lights serve as deterrents to snatchers and pickpockets that the Araneta Center in Cubao is notorious for.
In the photo, my daughter Alex taking a photo of the lighted trees.

I brought my friend to Cubao and was also enchanted with the lights.

Wow, first commenter on this blog.
Yeah, we went a little camera crazy with all those lights.

i lived in the cubao area for a little more than 20 years and not once was i robbed or my money snatched. I also studied in the Recto area for 4 years and my bag was slashed only twice and no money was taken. I have had several close brushes with hold uppers but nothing realy happened. hmm.. I must have been lucky

Hi - I work for Araneta Center and have been working there for over 20 years, and also never been a victim of anything negative. Let us know, though, how we can erase this perception re snatchers and robbers. Crime rate is nil. Or is it the area called Cubao you refer to ?

Well, both, Grace. The commercial area and the surrounding areas. I had my bag slashed right in front of Farmer’s Market one time.
