(Today’s column)
Iconic women (iconic for the right or wrong reasons) have been on the news lately. After Hillary Clinton lost her shot at the Democratic nomination and the chance to become the first woman president of the United States, another woman rose to prominence. Sarah Palin has become a household name and she just might become the first woman vice president of the United States. I’ve read about her and, frankly, I’m not impressed. She gives a whole new meaning to “conservatism” and her claim that her religious beliefs will never taint her policy-making sounds as dubious as the hell she reads about in her Bible.
I seriously wonder whether the apparent outpouring of support for Palin is not some screwed gender issue. How many votes will she get simply because she’s a woman? It might be relevant to ask too just how many votes Barack Obama will be getting simply because of the color of his skin. In an election–at least, ideally–gender and color should be irrelevant. Qualifications and a clear program of action should prevail. But this is 2008, when elections are run by media and marketing savvy professionals who package and sell candidates like any product on the supermarket shelf. If it looks good, then, it must be good. And, without a doubt, Sarah Palin looks very, very good.
That was my first impression when John McCain announced that Palin would be his running mate. She is easy on the eye, she has led a very tame and very traditional life and, ergo, it would be easy to sell her to the average voter. If there’s such a thing as a trophy wife, in the 2008 US elections the Republican Party just gave birth to a trophy running mate. If you’ve seen the videos of Palin’s interview with Charles Gibson on ABC News, you’d understand when I say there is nothing that can overturn my first impression of her. You’d understand too why the Republican Party has allowed very little media access to Palin. She reminds me of a ball I once attended where a friend brought the most gorgeous boy on earth for her date. The boy, however, was under strict instructions not to open his mouth. You know, why kill the magic when you’ve got everyone believing it is real?
The harsh truth is that Palin’s candidacy is turning the feminist movement five decades back in time. Women fought for so long to be recognized for their comparable, if not equal, abilities and skills. Now here comes Palin’s candidacy with her message that a beautiful face and a glamorous image are all it takes to be on the road to the White House.
The even harsher truth is that the ruse seems to be working. Before there was Palin, Obama was the American media’s pet. Suddenly, Obama is faced with a personality that media and people talked about as much as they talked about him. And, quite suddenly, McCain’s visibility is several notches higher with Sarah Palin by his side. Undeniably, beauty is a power unto itself.
But not everyone sees in Sarah Palin what her handlers want the world to see. If there are those who think she is the epitome of today’s iconic woman– beautiful, sexy, a woman who has successfully combined a wholesome (okay, that’s debatable) family life with a successful political career–there are those who see fit to turn her into a joke. Seen the Tina Fey impersonation on Saturday Night Live? It’s all over the Internet and it’s got people laughing very, very hard.
(I am not suggesting, of course, that all good-looking women who find themselves in powerful positions are too dumb to be anything but decorative. On the contrary. Eva Peron and Imelda Marcos did HUGE things when they were in power–they collected HUGE pieces of jewelry, amassed HUGE collections of glittery designer clothes and, in the case of Imelda, a HUGE art collection [which included works by Michelangelo, Botticelli, and Canaletto according to Wikipedia] and an even more HUGE inventory of shoes–even before they set their eyes on political positions independently of their husbands. While illness and death intervened in the case of Eva, Imelda did go on to become the Minister of Human Settlements, governor of Metro Manila and a member of the interim Batasang Pambansa–all appointive positions, naturally.)
It’s hilarious reading political opinions trying to make sense of McCain’s choice for a running mate. Some of the theories are so highfalutin with some even suggesting that Palin is supposed to win over the disgruntled supporters of Hillary Clinton when Obama did not name her as his running mate. Sheesh, Palin wasn’t chosen to steal any Democratic and independent votes. Palin was chosen just to place McCain in the running–to at least give him a semblance of a fighting chance. Palin is a breathing and walking (though hardly talking) advertisement for McCain and the Republican Party. The strategy is if you can’t marry your asset (as John F. Kennedy did), make her your running mate.

I thought Hillary Clinton was the most qualified person to be the President of USA. Unfortunately, a lot of people are envious of her, especially the American men - they just can not accept a woman running the good old USA. The good old boys don’t want to relinquish their position (or possessions) on power and money.
Christianne 09.18.08 at 8:31 pm
Natawa ako sa mga reklamo that the media is focusing too much on Palin’s personal life and scandals while in office (e.g. this email that has been circulating). She hardly opens her mouth and a few months ago didn’t even know what the Vice President did. What else is the media supposed to do if they aren’t given anything else to report?
The SNL skit is a classic… and there’s a Matt Damon video on Youtube where he says something like, “I want to know what she thinks about dinosaurs because if she becomes president, she’s going to have the nuclear codes.” LOL
Connie Veneracion 09.18.08 at 9:24 pm
JMonreal, re “they just can not accept a woman running the good old USA”
You know, women in power is no big deal in the Philippines anymore. We’ve had two women presidents and both are disasters. LOL But then again, there have been male presidents that were even bigger disasters.
Christianne, a “babe” aptly describes her. And she will get more male than female votes.
I’ll find that Matt Damon video.
pinayhekmi 09.18.08 at 10:43 pm
I credit my government and history class that I’m taking right now in giving me a broader awareness of what goes in in politics. (I’m also older now, hehe). Woody is ecstatic as I’ve been paying attention. I was really briefly overjoyed at the notion of the female president. After reading about her qualifications, and after watching the interview with Charles Gibson, I couldn’t agree more about the SNL impersonation.
Just another commentary on how sad people are to be so easily fooled into thinking that all that glitters is gold. And McCain’s analysts knew it would work! I am hopeful that people will finally get back to issues at hand, and critique those running with a more discerning mind.
JMonreal 09.18.08 at 11:04 pm
Hillary Clinton could have been a trophy running mate for Obama, but she is smart enough not to settle for just being a veep.
I agree that both women are disasters as president of the Philippines. We need somebody like a sassy lawyer.

Just wondering…how do you account for her 80% approval rating in the state she governs? All dummies I guess.

I saw and continue to see a lot of good things about Sarah Palin and I am leaning towards her than Obama, who seem to have many hidden agendas. He is too vague for me and I will voting for Sarah Palin. She is indeed a fresh breath in this new age of politics. Hope she wins.
Lolit 09.19.08 at 4:14 am
I know, I know… she’s not for presidency. But it seems like the race is between Sarah and Barack, don’t you ol think? I actually never liked politics. But this year, I will exercise my rights to vote. I will make my final decision the day I actually vote… is it Palin or Obama. ha ha ha
Mark 09.19.08 at 7:02 am
Tom, right on! Palin is known to be tuff on corruption and has the majority support from those that know her or her policies.
Pain has more experience than Barack.
I never doubt her patriotism; can’t say the same for the others.
geri 09.19.08 at 8:44 am
I think she’s a flash in the pan and her luster is visibly fading as we speak but still it would be unwise to underestimate her at what she can do in the 50 days before the election. Here’s another interesting (aren’t they all?) link about Palin.
Miguk 09.19.08 at 9:11 am
McCain is a 72 year old cancer survivor. Odds are Palin will be president eventually. There is a reason you don’t hear McCain hitting Obama’s youth or lack of experience anymore.
inna 09.19.08 at 9:17 am
the SNL skit is hilarious. it was very funny. one more you tube video you all might enjoy is the media on palin “sarah palin and republican hypocrisy” (jon stewart from the daily show).
thanks for an interesting read.

LOL! Palin is a big joke. when she was asked what foreign policy experience she can bring to the table, she pointed out that sh can see Russia from her house, what a twit!!!
oh she also just got her first passport this year, and lied about her going to iraq when in fact she never did (she was in the border of iran and iraq)
liar!! no to MCPAIN

Re #17. Geri, from the link you provided: “She’s brilliant when flashing a smile, delivering a speech, and connecting with people, but she tends to skirt issues because she rarely has a handle on them.”
The reality is that the dynamics of today’s elections, run as they are by marketers, encourage people to focus on the personalities and do away with the issues.
Katrina 09.19.08 at 12:39 pm
I think the fact that shes ignoring her down syndrom infant to run in this election, but is touting her family morals as her up, should be well enough to truly show who she really is.
jojo 09.19.08 at 1:00 pm
You’re right on the money. Before Palin, evangelicals, a big chunk of the Republican voting bloc, wanted to stay home because they couldn’t stand McCain-now they can’t get enough of these two. It was a purely political choice.
Miguk 09.19.08 at 1:04 pm
Personality counts because in the end it comes down to character. Elections are decided on how much you trust the person.
Trosp 09.19.08 at 1:15 pm
Hi Sass, This op-eds is a well written one. I specially like this one from it -
“The harsh truth is that Palin’s candidacy is turning the feminist movement five decades back in time. Women fought for so long to be recognized for their comparable, if not equal, abilities and skills. Now here comes Palin’s candidacy with her message that a beautiful face and a glamorous image are all it takes to be on the road to the White House.”
Those in the feminist movement would not vote for Palin primarily because she is not a pro-choice but a pro-life advocate (though I still have to read that this is a political issue with her). They are questioning her why she did not abort her youngest kid who was diagnosed to have a Down syndrome during her fourth month pregnancy. (More on that here - http://www.albertmohler.com/blog_read.php?id=1144)
Never mind her other outstanding accomplishments for a woman (or for a person).
Last but not the least, they will not vote for her because she does not like to wear pantsuits.
Duh?
Tom 09.19.08 at 3:00 pm
YEAH!!! It sure is time for change. The change I’d like to happen is to rid ourselves of this federal government. McCain claims that if elected he’d cut spending and have less government. Imagine how much spending could be cut and how much less government we would have if we totally eliminated the federal government. No more president, no more congress, no more supreme court. Power to the people. It could be a dawning of a New Age.
Tom 09.19.08 at 3:08 pm
And yes, no more federal income tax.

I like the no federal income tax. Just sales tax for everything you buy. This way the rich and the poor will pay the same percentage on whatever they buy. But first we need to vote for a President and other government officials that will have the government serve the people, not just a few like the influencial and moneyed corporations.
Lisa 09.20.08 at 10:43 am
I agree !00%.
BlogusVox 09.20.08 at 5:55 pm
On the conspiracy side, maybe Obama did not choose Hillary because she is too ambitious and will do anything to be president. His afraid she might do a “Manchurian Candidate”.
Trosp 09.20.08 at 6:05 pm
The way I see it, Palin’s vice presidential campaign team is not yet as organized as Obama’s. It would be natural that there would be “some†unintentional miscues that eventually to be exaggerated by her opponents. Take for example the below:
“LOL! Palin is a big joke. when she was asked what foreign policy experience she can bring to the table, she pointed out that she can see Russia from her house, what a twit!!!â€
(I hope the commenter can provide a link as to where and when she stated that).
Last I checked, the only item I could relate with what she has in foreign policy as regards Russia is her being interviewed in ABC by far-left Gibson (all caps are mine for emphasis) –
GIBSON: Let me ask you about some specific national security situations.
PALIN: Sure.
GIBSON: Let’s start, because we are near Russia, let’s start with Russia and Georgia.
The administration has said we’ve got to maintain the territorial integrity of Georgia. Do you believe the United States should try to restore Georgian sovereignty over South Ossetia and Abkhazia?
PALIN: First off, we’re going to continue good relations with Saakashvili there. I WAS ABLE TO SPEAK WITH HIM THE OTHER DAY AND GIVING HIM MY COMMITMENT, AS JOHN MCCAIN’S RUNNING MATE, THAT WE WILL BE COMMITTED TO GEORGIA. (Take note - she was not meddling). And we’ve got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable and we have to keep…
GIBSON: You believe unprovoked.
PALIN: I do believe unprovoked and we have got to keep our eyes on Russia, under the leadership there. I think it was unfortunate. That manifestation that we saw with that invasion of Georgia shows us some steps backwards that Russia has recently taken away from the race toward a more democratic nation with democratic ideals. That’s why we have to keep an eye on Russia.
And, Charlie, you’re in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They’re very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.
GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: THEY’RE OUR NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS AND YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE RUSSIA FROM LAND HERE IN ALASKA, FROM AN ISLAND IN ALASKA.
(That is for a woman who does not have the grasp of foreign policy. More on this in this link - http://newsbusters.org/blogs/p-j-gladnick/2008/09/13/abc-news-edited-out-key-parts-sarah-palin-interview).
As for this one –
“oh she also just got her first passport this year, and lied about her going to iraq when in fact she never did (she was in the border of iran and iraq) “
Again, I still have to read if she really said that. Last I checked it was a political aide who has released that information that she has been in Iraq. (And she has never been also in the border of Iran and Iraq as the commenter claimed but in K-Crossing in Kuwait-Iraq border). Take note also that her campaign aide when asked cannot confirm whether she has been in Mexico (she visited Mexico aside from Canada last time. It was just not known whether it was business or RNR). For her first passport, at least it is a North American one.
I copy and paste this one from http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/09/13/palin-to-iraq-did-she-or-didnt-she/
“Previously the campaign said she had traveled to Iraq to visit Alaskan soldiers, but the Globe reported today that it was just a border crossing between Kuwait and Iraq.
In her ABC interview Thursday night with Charlie Gibson, Palin DID NOT MENTION IRAQ WHEN TALKING ABOUT THE TRIP SAYING SHE VISITED THE TROOPS IN KUWAIT AND THEN VISITED INJURED SOLDIERS IN GERMANY.
Today, the Palin camp responded that the Vice-Presidential nominee did cross into Iraq, but it was a quick trip:
“Last summer, Governor Palin traveled to Kuwait where she visited Alaskan National Guard troops deployed to the war in Iraq at Camp Arifjen. While she was there she traveled to the K Crossing on the Kuwait-Iraq border, and a quarter mile into Iraq. According to the General who traveled with her, while she was there she presided over a re-enlistment ceremony of an Alaskan National Guard soldier. En route back to the United States, she traveled to the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. While in Germany, Governor Palin visited wounded soldiers at the Landstuhl military hospital. She then returned home. She also visited Canada, as well as Mexico for a vacation.â€â€
The same commenter in her/his comment said “liar!! no to MCPAINâ€. I would suggest he/she visit factcheck.org to know more about the political pleasantries of both McCain and Obama.
Trosp 09.20.08 at 11:41 pm
Last time, it was BDS. Now we have the PDS (Palin Derangement Syndrome). Let us check why.
They will not vote Palin because:
She wears designers clothes.
Bought a tanning bed using her own money.
Unfit mother.
Posing in bikini touting an M-16.
Banned books in the library.
She has disclosed publicly military secrets.
Those comments were from those who are USA voters who would not vote for her.
Let’s go to Reyna - a blogger, as one commenter has posted if anybody would like to visit. I don’t know if Reyna is a legitimate USA voter or she can comment authoratively on US political issue. (Could she be already affected by PDS?)
Let us see what was blogged lately on Sarah Palin by that local blogger (I might be wrong on this). (My comments are in parenthesis.)
Reyna says:
“I am beginning to understand that, yeah - 2 years as Governor of Alaska, still very unfamiliar and clueless even about partylines policy and errr…. Bush’s Doctrine and worse, talking about Change that sounds very Obama!â€
(Didn’t Palin asked Gibson what Bush policy he is referring to? Actually, there is no such Bush policy that Gibson would like to push. Perhaps, even to this blogger, with all honesty, she would not know what Bush policy is being referred to. Gibson wanted to make something out of nothing).
To a church gathering, she described a $30 billion natural-gas pipeline project, backed by state tax money, as “God’s will.â€
(Is she serious about this one? What she said was it’s God plan, not God’s will, and we will be the one to execute it. BTW, she’s addressing her speech into Christian group graduates. You can fault her on that.)
She commented - • Similarly, she said the war in Iraq was “a task that is from God … That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for — that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.
(But actually, what she said in her Gibson’s interview –
PALIN: But the reference there is a repeat of Abraham Lincoln’s words when he said — first, he suggested never presume to know what God’s will is, and I would never presume to know God’s will or to speak God’s words.
But what Abraham Lincoln had said, and that’s a repeat in my comments, was let us not pray that God is on our side in a war or any other time, but let us pray that we are on God’s side.
Would this require a further explanation to her?)
She won her first election as Wasilla mayor with help and financial support from conservative groups.
(Ha ha ha. Now I know she is a stupid one. Err not a stupid one but a so stupid one. Where do you think you’ll get your support, dummy? Maybe she would get it from the Democrats. My angel behind me is saying “pabayaan mo na yang ogags na yan”),
She is hounded by “Troopergate.â€, about Palin’s former brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, and her alleged attempts to get him kicked off the state police force. Critics say she abused her power. Defenders say she was trying to protect her family against someone who posed a danger.
(The word “houndedâ€. As if she has done something evil. The phrase “kick off†the state police is very disturbing. “Abused her power†. Strong words. I’m just wondering why she did not mention that her SOB brother in law tasered the boy. The boy!)
I cannot continue anymore on all her BS claims. If this Reyna would claim she is fair and without bias, and you would like to believe her, see me in 22nd street.
This Reyna is a certified moonbat.

Trosp, I hope I’m not trying to defend Reyna Elena but I think when you start calling bloggers some names, then you should also identify yourself and not hide from your anonymous name. That’s what you call fair, otherwise, you are nothing but a coward, given that you are challenging her in this blog and not on her blog.
I happen to know him. He went to school at George Washington University and Temple University with an MBA and even more high-flying credentials from the Philippines. Now, that could be an envy to some of you Pinoys in America to have not gone to American schools. He’s American and a Filipino and lived and worked in America that he understood what’s going on not only financially but politically and he is a registered Democrat. If you find out his corporate position, you’d be surprised. So, what if he’s not voting for Palin? So what if he’s a Democrat? That’s his political inclinations. You don’t call people stupid just because they don’t believe in your political beliefs. He’s pretty vocal about his being democrat. Now, don’t you think it’s time for you to show off the real you instead of hiding from your anonymous name? I doubt if you could even be on his level.

Kotsengkuba, IMO, once you blog, expect that, as a blogger, there will be flattering and unflattering comments about what you posted. In short, you’ll be a fair game, I have been commenting in this blog since 2004 if I’m not mistaken. I consider myself a fair game for those who read my posted comments. I screw up with my comments, that will be my fault, specially if it is an item that I didn’t fact check first. I am guilty of that once in a while and I make an effort to settle it.
As for Reyna, I find it that he has omitted some facts or has miscaractherized them (others would call dishonesty) to fit his agenda. Of course, it’s his blog. Kahit ano bang agenda ang gusto nya pwede nyang gawin. It’s his blog. Kahit puro kasinungalingan or whatever he would like to post- it’s his blog.
You were the one who recommended the link for us to visit I find his post on Palin as grossly bias and fit exactly how a moonbat will characterize Palin. If not, at least he has to provide some contexts on what he has posted. Or might as well claim his post was just a satire. It was the other way around. Full of conjectures.
Acording to you “sino ka to have a better opinion”.
Perhaps just like him, you cannot support that statement that I have a better opinion than him or than you. But one thing I always try my best to make my opinion fact based.
Did I make any issue on who he would vote? Revisit my comment and try to see if being a democrat or who he will vote in the US presidential election was an issue to me. (Parang pareho kayong dalawang Pinoy na may corporate position sa US? Ganyan ba kayo - nakabandera kaagad ang corporate position pag kausap ang kapwa Pinoy? No wonder…). All I wrote was he is a certified moonbat and his claims are BS. Don’t I have a right to say his claims were BS if I can prove that they are? The least I can expect from this situation is he would debunk me. He should prove that he is the one who is right. (of course, pwede naman nyang sabihin na “don’t mind that. Hindi naman sya Pinoy na may corporate position sa US).
About me using an anonymous name, I’m using “Trosp” instead of anonymous. Everybody can refer to that name if they want to have a counter comment on my comment. We all know that there are millions of commenters in blogsphere who are using the name “anonymous”.
Definition of moonbat from http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Moonbat
Moonbat (also “barking moonbat” and “moonbat crazy”) is a term often used currently in U.S. politics as a political epithet referring to anyone that is liberal or on the left.

Just plain curious. Why would we be surprised if we found out his corporate position? From where we are now, does it really matter? Does a comment of a CEO carries more weight than that of a 9 to 5 blue-collar man in blogosphere? As long as what you say is true or supported by facts, thats good enough for me. As far as I know, a lot of great lies where said by people at the top.

Sorry Ms. Sassy, I can’t help it. I have to post this.
@29&30. Who really cares about citizenships and credentials here? Your not applying for a job, are you? The point is Trosp challenged the veracity of what you said. The appropriate response is to prove his wrong. If we gauge this by the merit system, you’re not building up any points.
As for kotsengkuba’s judgment of reliability: it reminds me of Lacson’s remarks with regards to Neri’s appointment as head of GSIS. To quote;

JMonreal, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are good examples. Many times, I think that traditional formal education stifles rather than encourages the individual. The way that education goes these days, students are taught to conform and fit in the box rather than to think outside of the box.

here’s what was on the tabloids, err. friday?

Tabloids are a waste of intelligent time.
JMonreal 09.23.08 at 10:57 am
You’re 100% right Connie. The government and the powerful corporations want us to stay inside their box. They tell us to go to school, get a college degree, and work for a company to get paid well. But a lot of college degree holders can’t even find a job. These talents and natural resources are wasted. The government need to encourage and teach entrepreneurship.
Like the economy, the two-party political system need some shot in the arm. They only give you 2 boxes to choose - bailout or welfare.
Miguk 09.23.08 at 11:52 am
With a proposed $700 billion dollar bailout of the financial system capitalism (and responsibility) basically goes out the window. The Bolsheviks or Fidel Castro could only dream of that kind huge of an economy to control

@39. Trosp naman, do I only make sense when I’m drunk? Itinakwil ko na ang alak nayan.
It’s just that it irritates me when I see pinoys who think they are “holier than thee†just because they have a green passport, educated in some prestigious institution and earning above 90% of the population. Worst than that is when I see pinoys enamored, short of idolizing that kind of person, accepting every word they say at “face valueâ€. In fact, I wrote about this kind of pinoy mindset in my blog a few post ago.

Wow, it’s gotten interesting here. Regarding the bikini pic. That’s the least of my objections. Who really cares about that? That is certainly not a positive image to project to Conservative voters in the U.S. (a group of which I’m not part). My main objection is her utter lack of experience.
It’s been oft-repeated, if something were to happen to McCain, she would be the country’s leader! Is someone with her serious lack of leadership experience, foreign relations experience, who the Americans would want to lead their country? Or maybe she’ll just say “God’s will be done” and that’ll be that. She won’t have to think things through.
And I’m not bringing this up because of McCain’s age. Or not just because of it. A dying president is not unprecedented.
Trosp 09.23.08 at 5:58 pm
Blogusvox, It’s just that I’m reminded when you were using your other name when you first blog here. Other than that, I just like to lighten up the exchanges of pleasantries in this blog. After posting this, I’ll visit your blog and perhaps leave a comment.
As for Palin in bikini suit touting an M-16, almost all in the far-left still believe in it even though it was convincingly debunked. They are really, the way I see it , blinded with hatred.
Additional PDS items for her from the far-left:
o She looks like a porn actress.
o Her hairdo is out of fashion.
o Does not know how to create strong passwords.
I just don’t know why they have to sound and look deranged in libeling Palin. They all have said that she has no chance of winning. But it seems they are in panic.
How about Obambi -
(These are convincingly documented)
• Perilous lack of foreign policy experience,
(His political statement in Russian incursion in Georgia- compare it with Palin’s. Take note that he made two political statements in this issue.)
• Long time associations with left-wing radicals and domestic terrorists.
(“The [Rev. Wright] that I saw yesterday was not the person I met 20 years ago . . . â€,*“That was not the William Ayers I knew . . . â€)
• Business dealings with Chicago corruptocrats.
(“This isn’t the Tony Rezko I knew . . .â€)
Better yet, I’m highly recommending to those who would like to know more about lies on the issues that are flooding the web, you may visit http://factcheck.org/

Pinayhekmi, re McCain’s age, have you seen ABC panel on the Huffpost yet?

nag-sway na naman ang mga polls towards barack… palin is losing her “attraction”. seems like the honeymoon with palin is over.
I have to admit i enjoyed charlie gibson “smacking” her down (even tho some people thought that he was a tad too harsh with his interview of her).

Miguk: Not only that, isn’t these series of bail outs the biggest scam on the American taxpayer? Privatize profits, socialize losses! It’s sickening how this corrupt administration is trying to railroad this “cash for trash” band aid. Wall St. keeps the cash and Main St. gets the trash (bad debt) for future generations to pay. So much for deregulation and Reaganomics!
JMonreal 09.24.08 at 4:37 am
I did not vote for Bill Clinton (i know i made a mistake) during his two terms. Same with the two Bushes (this one was the right choice). This time, I will vote for the right candidate.
Our three grown-up kids all finished college, no master’s degree, but they have good paying jobs. They are practical, and they make more sense than me - they said their future is at stake. They want a change for their future, and their future generations. They are voting Obama.
Miguk 09.24.08 at 7:59 am
Jojo: I am a Republican, but what they are doing is something even the most liberal-leaning democrat would hesitate doing. They espouse the free market, but since most Republicans are evangelicals they don’t believe in Darwin’s survival of the fittest anyway

It always happens the moment I dabble in politics. I don’t do it very often these days but I guess I still have that effect. LOL
bote 09.24.08 at 10:45 am
“It might be relevant to ask too just how many votes Barack Obama will be getting simply because of the color of his skin….”
so thus asking how many votes McCain will get simply because of the color of his skin.

Ben, I’m always around. Bihira na lang akong mag-comment. Very time consuming to fact check what I want to comment.
See you around.
