The politics of global warming — that’s the title of Alex’s school report which she’s probably delivering — with a Powerpoint presentation — right at this very minute. I don’t know why she chose that topic. When she asked me to help her, I made a few suggestions but she kept saying, “No, no… that will encroach on my classmates’ topics.” Well, I don’t know how the politics of global warming can be so streamlined that it will never refer to related issues, so I just let her figure out how to go about it.
Sometimes, she just stumps me with her requests for help. Like a few nights ago when she was asking for suggestions for the Science Expo. She said it has to be a demonstrable topic that her group can report on and discuss. Then, she said she was thinking of the Toughbook — you know, the laptop that doesn’t conk out if you accidentally spill water all over it or even if you are stupid enough to drop it from a certain height. She scared me, really, because I was almost sure she would ask me to buy her a Toughbook so she can participate in the Science Expo.
So, I was quick to suggest an alternative topic — meat from cloned animals, I said, thinking that with the surrounding controversy, there would be a lot to discuss. Then, I had these god-awful visions of her asking me to produce a cloned cow or pig to bring to school. When she seemed lukewarm over my suggestion, I did not pursue it. She walked away scratching her head and I don’t know what topic she and her groupmates finally agreed on.
But, for sure, I am buying neither a Toughbook nor a cloned cow.

Tito Rolly, you said it! Di naman parallel ang pagtaas ng kita ng mga magulang. Kaya nga ba, tama na sa amin ang 2 anak.

My wife works for the National Academy of Sciences and produces as well as “airs” the podcasts for the Academy. You may want to ask Alex to browse the following URL and find a topic that may possibly help her with her science project. Just a suggestion.
