A chance to view Fernando Amorsolo’s paintings
Posted on 09-29-08 · The Mommy Journals Tags: art, educationA couple of weeks ago, I was invited to the media launch of a series of exhibits of Fernando Amorsolo’s paintings. Last week, I was again invited to the opening of the first of the eight exhibits at the Vargas museum in the U.P. College of Fine Arts building. I did not go to either event. However, I will go and see the exhibits on my own time — the one at the Vargas Museum and the ones that will open after that.
This is not how the invitation looked originally — I had to crop instead of merely resizing so the text stays large enough to read.

It’s really a pity that museums are closed on Sundays, the only day that every member of the family is free. But I’ve already made a pact with the girls that we will go museum hopping over the semestral break and Christmas break. I think it’s important, especially for them, since they both intend to pursue art-related courses after high school. It might sound like a cliche but the learning that can be gleaned outside the classroom is often more profound and lasting.
Ayala is open on Sundays. They have an excellent jazz brunch at their restaurant.
Oooh, that is good news indeed. Two good news.
He used to work for my grandfather at Philprom. I should have saved some of his work that was hanging in his office, but I didn’t know better then.
Hi, Chris. Amorsolo used to work at Philprom? Who was your grandfather? I’m doing research for the Insular Life centennial book, a client of Philprom, and I thought it would be good to feature Philprom. Thanks.
Chris, they would be collectors’ items today!
I want to start collecting the future Lunas and Amorsolos painting today while they are still in their starving artist period hahaha
Double post naman!
I deleted the double post, Miguk. About the paintings, did you see the exhibit I was promoting a month or so ago? There was an image on the sidebar that linked to this page.
Thank you. I went to see the exhibit of Amorsolo at the Metropolitan. His paintings are very lovely. I heard that he has a darker period painted during the war now on exhibit at the University of the Philippines. However, I’m afraid to go there — with the rabid anti-americanism there I might not make it back hahaha
Picasso sold his paintings on the sidewalks of Paris during his starving artist period. I wish I could find someone like that here
Wow, those were his rural landscape paintings, right? Re the U.P. exhibit. Oh, come on. I was a U.P. Student, college and law school. And it’s anti-American capitalism and neo-colonialism, not anti-Americanism. You’ll be perfectly safe there. Of course, if I don’t read any more comments from you, it means I was mistaken and you got bashed hehehehe
Yes, those were very pastoral scenes and very beautiful.
Ok then — I am rather anti-American capitalism these days myself!!!! I am going to print out your blog pages to act as my safe conduct pass — hopefully the more I won’t get bashed hahahahaha
Actually it’s just Seven exhibits.. not eight.
