We have seen most of the residential subdivisions in the area. We know the quality of the neighborhood of each one, the prices, the lot sizes, the amenities and everything else we need to know to make a good decision. And, this time, we all got to decide — including the girls. And their votes carried as much weight as Speedy’s and mine. It’s only fair. It’s going to be their house as much as ours.

That time that Speedy and I had a fight over whether to use a ceiling fan or a stand fan, we were actually trying to decide what fan to install in our bedroom in the new house, the one we’ll be moving into in a few weeks’ time. That makes it less silly than it [...]

Not every light that hangs from the ceiling is a chandelier. By definition, a chandelier is a lighting fixture that is attached to the ceiling, has branches (or arms) with each branch holding the light. Of course, it’s not a strict definition especially given the more modern chandelier designs. But I won’t say more than [...]

If a house were like a web page, I could try different colors and color mixes without incurring too many expenses. But the reality is that if I can’t make up my mind about what the color of the house should be, I might as well leave it with its all-white exterior. But I don’t [...]

We watch movies at night. When school’s out, no one’s obliged to wake up early the next morning so we sometimes spend the entire night watching movies. So, breakfast hour is a little screwed. We have breakfast sometime after midnight which should make it something between a midnight snack and a regular breakfast.
A few nights ago, Sam busied herself in the kitchen and whipped up some crepes which she served with sliced fresh bananas drizzled with golden syrup.

Monday - the day when you start making MONey.
Tuesday - the day you get to CHOOSE (rhymes with “Tues”, get it?) whether to work or not because you already worked hard on Monday.
Wednesday - the day people get married (WEDdingDAY, okay?)…

The other night, we were arguing over whether to use a stand fan or a ceiling fan and we both lost our cool and went to bed without speaking with each other. I know, it was so silly. Ang babaw! But you never realize the silliness until afterwards when you’ve had a chance to cool down. So, yesterday, he came home with a box of chocolates and fig newtons.
It’s not that I demand that the apology be in the form of a gift, it’s just that he expresses himself better that way and it helps break the ice. Thing is, Sam and Alex have gotten used to this routine.

We really need more space. The kids, especially. The room they share has become a war zone cum safari and the constant bickering affects all of us. To be honest, it makes working at home quite difficult. I also think that it’s about time I get myself a study/office where I can work undisturbed.
So, [...]

The online version of The Australian recently published a report about a growing movement of parents to ban junk food ads especially on television. The reason? Because “the advertising was undermining their efforts to teach children good eating habits.” Heaven knows I’d like to see something similar in the Philippines, but the question is who [...]

For the past several days, I have been answering e-mailed interview questions. Some, food-related; others, not. One particular question was memorable: “How do you find something interesting enough to write about everyday?”
I’m afraid I gave the interviewer a very short answer. Sorry, but that happened when my DSL connection was down and I was [...]
