Not a good day to see a movie

by Connie Veneracion on November 29, 2007

Sam sent me a text message asking if she could go with her classmates to the mall to see a movie. It’s the last day of their Trimestral Exams and I understand that they want to unwind.
But. BUT. I was just on the phone with Speedy. And a former classmate from the U.P. College of [...]

Are you a PLDT MyDSL victim?

by Connie Veneracion on November 29, 2007

Since yesterday morning, my broadband connection has been slow and spotty. And that’s the good news. The bad news is that between slow and spotty, my internet connection is dead. PLDT customer service (outsourced, of course) has put in a recording to explain the “browsing problem” with an assurance that their engineers are working to [...]

Christmas came early for Sam and Alex

by Connie Veneracion on November 28, 2007

When Sam took this self-portrait, the Canon EOS 350D was still mine.

As of 7.00 p.m. last night, she became the owner of the camera that had been an integral part of my blogging life for the past two and a half years.
Because Alex prefers a smaller camera, she got a Canon S3 IS.
Me? I am [...]

FAQ about the Wordpress blog template

by Connie Veneracion on November 27, 2007

Okay, time to answer a few e-mails. Most of them, I just reply to; others, I prefer to answer here to avoid repetitious queries and because, maybe, the Q&A will benefit others.
1. You design your blog?
Noooooo… There is an attribution link on the right sidebar. It says Whitespace theme by Brian Gardner. He’s the same [...]

Why I want a flatbed scanner

by Connie Veneracion on November 26, 2007

We have so many photo albums because we’ve always been a camera family. And you know how parents are especially when the kids are very young — films and processing were a necessary part of our monthly budget.
Well, photos fade. Even the negatives don’t last that long. For the past so many years — I [...]

On the kitchen cabinet

by Connie Veneracion on November 25, 2007

If you’re not a brave person, read no farther.
If you think that gore has no place in an ideal world — which probably means you are NOT a CSI fan — read no farther.
There is nothing artificial about this photo. It has not been digitally altered in any way. This is nature, albeit that part [...]

Art work

by Connie Veneracion on November 24, 2007

Speedy comes from a family of artists. Two of his brothers have a fine arts degree; another is an architect. Speedy isn’t bad with drawing and painting either. So, when both our girls showed artistic inclinations early on, I had no doubts where the genes came from.
There’s this sketch done in pencil that had been [...]

I want a Palm Centro

by Connie Veneracion on November 21, 2007

Speedy’s phones are company issued. Mine aren’t. I don’t have a company. I have ME. And all my business expenses, I have to pay for. As Speedy so pointedly pointed out recently (how’s that for alliteration), if I want a computer upgrade and a dSLR upgrade, I should pay for them because they are considered [...]

We lost another cat

by Connie Veneracion on November 20, 2007

Sam’s cat, Bebe, gave birth to two kittens. But we lost Pepper, Sam’s Persian cat.

She learned to scale the fence, went out last night and hasn’t come back. Stray cats don’t get second glances around here but a pure breed cat can be sold.
I feel so sorry for Sam. She refuses to go to [...]

The bride-to-be and the flower girl’s mother

by Connie Veneracion on November 19, 2007

Overheard while waiting in line at the bank last week:
Woman 1: “Heto yung sketch nung gown ng flower girls. Violet na may gold trimmings.”
Woman 2: “Eh, bakit naman violet?”
Woman 1: “Violet ang motif kasi yun ang favorite color ko, eh.”
Woman 2: “Palitan mo motif mo. Hindi bagay sa anak ko ang violet.”
Wow, talk about a [...]
