August 30, 2007

I was browsing HEdCen.Com and found an announcement about a workshop for yayas (nannies). One of the topics is choosing appropriate (media) shows. I’m still trying to find out if the workshop is open to the public or if it’s exclusive to yayas of HEdCen students.
I had to smile when I read about the yaya [...]

Street children and a sando bag

It was Sam who suggested that I take a photo of the boy with the sando bag. That the plastic grocery bag was used as a real bag interested her, I suppose.

The photo was taken in Quezon City ten days ago. That’s North Avenue on the background. These kids were selling flannel cloths that [...]

The sun sets over Taipei

After an afternoon at Taipei 101, we set out on the three-and-a-half hour drive to the Sun Moon Lake in Central Taiwan. Where we were exactly when the sun set, I have no idea. The photos were taken through the window of the bus.

Crocs and escalators

August 28, 2007

No one in my family wears Crocs — too expensive. Well, even if they weren’t, they’d still look too clunky for my size 6 feet.
But the aesthetics and price of Crocs aside, last week, there was a column about children whose Crocs got caught in escalators. In Singapore, two-year-old Chong Shiyr’s fake Crocs got [...]

The wedding processional

August 27, 2007

(15) Comments

It was Juan and Juana’s wedding. The church assistant was having problems with the groom’s parents as to what should be the place of each in the wedding processional. Normally, it’s a de-kahon solution. If it’s a traditional wedding, the parents wait at the alter with the groom. If it’s a modern wedding, the groom [...]

Pediatricians and pediatricians with specialties

August 24, 2007

(20) Comments

Time was when pediatrics was, by itself, a specialty. A pediatrician was a specialist as opposed to doctors engaged in general practice.

These days, being a pediatrician doesn’t seem to carry a label of specialization anymore. There are specialized sub-fields like pediatric hematology, pulmonary pediatrics, pediatrics endocrinology and metabolism, interventional pediatric cardiology…
The good news is [...]
