Pre-nuptial agreement

I’m not a believer that, once married, “what is mine, is yours.” I used to kid my husband that if I were to articulate it, it would be, “What is yours, is mine, and what is mine, is mine.” Kidding aside, even in the absence of a pre-nuptial agreement to keep each spouse’s properties separate, [...]

Cannibalizing and Gringo’s story

You know I hardly talk about my family in my blogs. Except for some really interesting incidents that reflect strongly of Filipino culture (like this one) or something inspiring for mothers like myself, I stay away from the subject of my family. Mostly, it was out of respect for their privacy. Second, I felt that [...]

Look what Pacquiao did!

That’s the sitemeter reading for Pinoy Cook today. On weekends, there are usually about a hundred visitors at any given time one-hour period. The numbers are higher during weekdays. But weekend or weekday, the graphs usually show a steady line. Well, more or less. But see where the page views dipped today starting at around 11.00 a.m.? Then it really plunged at 2.00 p.m. Of course, it’s related with the Pacquiao-Morales bout.

Living to a ripe old age

It’s common sense. You want to live to a ripe old age, then, you have to maintain a healthy lifestyle. “Healthy” is, of course, relative. So is “old age”. But eating the “right” food and staying away from the “bad” ones always come up when anyone talks about a healthy lifestyle. What do people usually [...]

Filipinos just love beauty contests. My husband was in Balayan, Batangas again today and a motorcade of the Miss Earth 2006 contestants passed by. Of course, he took photos.

No marital rape in Singapore

It wasn’t until the Anti-Rape Law took effect in 1997 that the Philippines finally acknowledged that there is such a thing as marital rape. I used to think that the government should have done that much, much earlier. Actually, I still do. That’s why I was more than a bit surprised to read that in [...]

Spelling, grammar and future employment

More than once, I have written about some of my sad experiences when, working in HR some years back, I had the unfortunate responsibility of going over hundreds of application letters every time a vacancy occurred. My main conplaint complaint–how come college graduates were unable to compose decent application letters? Some didn’t even know the [...]

Buying flowers in Tagaytay

Three days in Tagaytay and that is the clearest photo of Taal Volcano that I could manage. Cloudy, foggy… It was sunny in Tagaytay City itself from the second day onward but down by Taal Lake, the haze never let up. So, we spent a lot of time going over the flower stalls along [...]

Michigan vs. Sharee Miller

Came across Fatal Error (HBO) and I forgot that I intended to go to bed after the kids left for school. The best part came at the end of the movie just before the credits–it was based on a true story. According to some sites, the film was supposed to have been retitled Fatal Desire [...]

The Tagaytay trip

We spent three days in Tagaytay last week. The big deal really about going there was just to enjoy the food at Bag of Beans. And do a lot of photography, naturally. But let me write this from the beginning.
About a month before our scheduled trip, my husband was in Tagaytay on a business trip. [...]
